TAH 4 days post hysterectomy: How long do I need to take stool softeners?

I had my TAH on 1/12 and am feeling great. I am on no narcotics and have had three successful bm's in the past two days. My discharge papers recommend stool softeners, but it doesn't say how long I need to take them. What was your experience? How long did you take them? Thank you in advance for your advice!

As long as you need them, I think I took them for around 2 weeks.

I was on them for about two weeks -- I took Miralax, which is a colorless/tasteless/odorless powder that you can mix into absolutely anything and take unobtrusively. I had it in a cup of warmed-up apple cider every morning. The best thing about it was that I could tail off of it gradually, which isn't as convenient/possible with a pill.

I was religiously taken mine, for about 2 weeks and then started to back off... once in a while I will have a hard time so I will take them for a couple days as needed (i'm 5.5 weeks post-op)

I took them for 4 weeks as I was scared that I would have issues. I was also on narcs, so it was good to still take them.
