Always go home w/ cathader when A&P repair?

I did go home with a catheter on the second day and it was removed in the office the next day. The caveat was that if I didn't void enough in the office it would have to go back in, but I was bound and determined that wasn't gonna happen. Fortunately, luck and the surgery gods favored me and that was the end of it. The lessons in catheter care stood me in good stead, though, because 6 months later DH had a hernia repair, developed acute retention and had his own cath for the weekend.

To the previous poster: Yikes! A SECOND a & p repair? I'm so sorry. Hope you are recovering well and the second repair does the job.

Do not worry about a cathy ,shes your best friend. Read my post in bladder matters. I came home with Miss Foley. She allowed my bladder to heal. I was very embassed at first, but the healing is more important. The weight of say just 500cc of urine is heavier then we think. So let a cathater take the over .I had one for 10 days, really not the problem I thought it was going to be.Cathy Foley is a blessing.

Hi Carolyn, I agree about the suprapubic catheter. I really believe it would be alot easier than a urethral catheter, plus you know when your bladder has really come out of "shock". Having it removed was a bit wierd feeling though.

Hi Kalzan, You are right, it was wierd coming out. That strong bladder sensation is intense. Looking back on it, I am glad I had the suprapubic. Good luck! Carolyn
