Re: Alone in the hospital?
Zev here
It was all good in the hospital by myself. My friend was there to get me settled into my room and to pick me up when I was released.
That place was such an utter loonie bin of loud voices, lunatic roommates, clattering in the hall, people coming and going (even in a semi-private room) that the last thing I needed was more people keeping me awake!
It all went well - I shrugged off the anesthetic like water and didn't even need a lot of pain meds afterward. So I was pretty lucid through the whole thing and got all my instructions (most of which I already knew from reading this site)
Still not able to sit upright for too long but I'll post my experience in the post-op thread - the part about them wanting to take everyone's rectal cultures during lunch time was especially mind-boggling

Re: Alone in the hospital?
I was knocked out most of the time I was in the hospital. I'm talking at least 80%. My parents stayed in the room with me most of the day, but slept (was drugged) much of it. When I was awake I was grouchy (pain meds, I figure). I've apologized several times for being snippy and not terribly polite. They kept saying they didn't think twice about it.

Great to hear that you are home.
Sounds like you had a bit of a crazy ride in the hospital.
The hospital I was in only has private rooms. This is a good thing as I have never had a room mate in my life (other than a husband). I sure wasn't going to start with surgery. LOL!
IN my experience, there were about 20 rooms in my wing. Only two were occupied. Obviously me, and a lady in the room across the hall. I could tell that she was an elderly lady and hard of hearing. Lucky me. She spoke in a loud voice at all hours, even talking with her friend on the phone at 1AM! LOL! Beauty was, I didn't even want to go to sleep until after 1AM Tuesday (my surgery was at 9AM on Monday.) So it wasn't that she was keeping me awake, just ticking me off. LOL!
Ah, you are home now. Glad to hear that it went well. Take care of yourself, rest, even when you think you are not tired, and in no time at all, you will be up and running like a banshee.
