afraid to do sit ups with my vertical incision...
I had an abdominal hysterectomy on May 6th. Its been 12 weeks and i wanna do sit ups..but im afraid because im still tender. I mean my incision is vertical and goes above my belly button like and inch. Anyone have this too and started exercising abdominally?

I had the horizontal bikini line incision but what really bothered me after getting back into exercise was the muscle pain inside. Ab pain, etc....My lower abs hurt. I was released to go back to work and back to exercise after only six weeks. I started but then backed off the ab exercises until around week 16-18 and then started in slowly by doing pilates and yoga. I would suggest you start out slow. Do cardio on a treadmill, work by holding in your abs at first and only doing low impact exercises. You will eventually get back into your routine. I am now doing Billy Blanks Taebo and that works your core to the inner most muscles. You'll get there just be patient.

I don't plan to do any ab focusing excercises until 6 months out. I will do aerobics and walk but no sit ups. Maybe it's too soon and the tenderness is your body's way of warning you to take it easy on ab ecercises.

I had a TAH just over 3 weeks ago and this past Friday my doctor cleared me to start exercising again, including ab work. I am going to call my physical therapist on Monday and start working with him on my re-entry into the exercise world. I'll feel better having "supervisoin & guidance" for the first 6 weeks or so as I slowly build myself back up

I had the exact experience like Endoals who also posted on here. I started exercising at about 8-9 weeks but had to back way of. My stomach muscles were so weak and they hurt when I did exercises. I started VERY slow. I did pilates at home at first because I could do so little. After about 6-7 weeks at home I joined a class. Pilates is great.
You have to be VERY patient when you start strengtening your stomach muscles again. Only do a couple stomach exercises at first and built on it slowly or you will be in pain. I was pretty irritated at first. I could not believe how little I was able to do. Try to be patient and don't give up. Just go slow.

I am the same. I wanted to try sit ups and it still hurts at two months. I will wait and do other things.

I had surgery six weeks ago and haven't done any exercises yet except taking walks. I have a vertical incision. Guess I will take it easy and just keep walking until I am sure I'm up to more exercising.

I had a TAH/BSO with vertical incision. I have not been cleared to exercise. (I am 6 weeks post-op) My doctor said that maybe at 12 weeks I could start slowly doing some abd exercises.

What kind of ab exercises has your doctor cleared you to do? Sit ups? And if so, how many? Should you stop if you're having pain? Or just go slower? I lost a lot of weight and things just are not normal in any way yet.
