Complications during surgery

I had Total Abdominal Hysterectomy on Aug 20. It was supposed to be LAVH, but due to earlier uterine ablations, the larger size of my uterus, and the presence of a large fibroid cyst, it had to be done abdominal. Not happy at ALL! Really was not expecting it and apparently, neither was the doc.
As if the surgery was not complicated enough, I had an instrument (a clamp) break inside me. The doc pulled the piece out and it seemed to "match up", but to be sure, the doc ordered an xray while I was still on the OR table.
Question: is there anyone else out there that had complications like this? How was your recovery? I seem to be doing well, otherwise, but I am very worried about returning to work after 4 weeks. I have a desk job and I can take breaks, but there are days when i am just too tired. Should I give myself more time?
Please share your "complications" if you would. I need to feel that I am not alone. Thanks!

Complications during surgery

I feel ur pain didn't have a clamp break in me but had a total abdominal because my ovaries were the size of grapefruits. My recovery was hard gas pains for 4 weeks hematoma that made me think I was hemeridging. Cut from bellybutton down. Horrible constipation but I'm at 8 weeks and doing much better. Coughing still hurts at times but I'm good so hang in there.

Re: Complications during surgery

Thank you, snlweaver! Glad to hear you are doing better. I am hearing most people are off 8 weeks. Geez, I was not expecting this. Just started a new job, too.
Sounds like yours was a tougher case than mine. I gotta stop being so whiny. Feel better soon!

Re: Complications during surgery

Hi Thelmaandlouise I am going on my 4th week now and even if I do not have much pain I don't feel ready to go back to work... the dr should be a better advice but I think minimum 6 weeks off even for a desk job specially with abdominal surgery...please listen to your body and don't rush much... good luck in your recovery...hugs :-)
