scoliosis and newly fibroid-free body...any advice?

Hi sisters,

Haven't seen anything on the boards to help me with this. Tried posting on the fitness board but not much traffic there.

I think that my body had adjusted to my humongous uterus and fruitbasket of fibroids. Now that they are gone, I have been trying to be conscious of my posture and use of my abs. I have slight scoliosis which hasn't caused me much trouble in years.

However, since surgery, I have been having trouble with my right hip as well as my back. I am wondering if all of this might be due to my body trying to re-align.

Has anyone else had problems like this and if so, what did they find helped?

I see my pcp tomorrow so I'm considering asking if physical therapy might help.

Any ideas?? Thanks!

NYGal,
You're the perfect candidate for the best posture book ever written to help you. It's called 'Somatics' and it's an easier book on the Feldenkrais Method written by one of Moshe Feldenkrais's students. His own book, just is not as user friendly. The Feldenkrais Method is not stretching per se, as much as it is getting muscles to RELEASE. And becoming body aware of your posture in your subconcious mind, so it's automatic, not forced. The illustrations alone will give you an "aha" feeling as you recognize what's going on. Also both sides of the body are treated individually, and compared, so that can be a big help with scoliosis to release one side more or less than another. Until you feel right.
So, are you sure you're not sitting in front of the computer more than, say, a few months ago? Like many of us other sisters? Seriously, I think your body has been accomodating an unnatural weight and pain in your abdomen for a while and has made some postural adjustments.
See if they have 'Somatics' used online, if anybody will give theirs up. It's in softback, oversized. It's priceless. Best, Asta

scoliosis and newly fibroid-free body...any advice?

newyorkgirl,

that almost describes me. I had scoliosis bad enough to need a brace, but not bad enough for surgery. My right hip has been killing me. Today I skipped my walks to give it a rest. --That and I took a trip to the library and took out a bunch of books on streatching.

I don't think it is necessarily because of loosing the fibroids, because I've had knee, shoulder, neck, and heal issues before the surgery. Usually readjusting my posture fixes it, but then something else hurts. Going to a good physical therapist has helped the best. (Though I went to three different ones with my knee until I found someone who could help)
