12 days post hysterectomy: Feeling like I've now got bipolar

I am at the end of my second week post op and even though I am healing physically and able to do more I feel really flat and deflated. I'm sure it's to do with all the drugs I've had pumped in me but I'm generally a very upbeat person and don't like feeling down. Is this normal?

Hi there! What could also be affecting you is your ovaries. Although you may have kept one or both of them, they are likely a little shocked after having their blood supply severed. As they are re-establishing another blood supply to get back into operating mode, you may experience temporary menopausal type symptoms, which could include mood swings or hot flashes. If this is bothersome, talk to your doc about it. They may be able to give you something in the meantime until your ovaries are back supplying hormones again.

Re: 12 days post hysterectomy: Feeling like I've now got bipolar

I can totally relate. I'm normally pretty low, as far as emotions go. But I'm sad to the point of being almost furious. I have two kids but I cry every time I see a baby or pregnant woman. And as the days go by I just get more and more angry. My two week follow up is on Wednesday and I'm going to try to talk to my doctor without breaking into tears. I don't know what he'll tell me. I don't want to go on medication but I can't keep going like this.
