TVH & A & P repair on March 15 HELP!

I am so scared. I have a vaginal hysterectomy with anterior/posterior repair scheduled for Frday, March 15th. At the same time, I will be having an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) mostly to repair the ab muscles so that I will have support of the organs. I was diagnosed with a pelvic prolapse. (I am 32). I am mostly afraid of pain, infection and something going wrong during surgery. Does anyone have advice? Please? -Lillith

TVH & A & P repair on March 15 HELP!

Hi Lillith,

I'm 5 wks. post-op and had the same procedures you are about to have, except for the tummy tuck.

Waiting for your "castle" visit is hard and you imagine so many things. Reading the messages on this site helped me so much pre-op, I felt I had a better understanding of what was going to happen.

Everyone is anxious and nervous before hand, it is very normal! I tried to stick my normal routine up until the time for my surgery and that helped take my mind off it a bit. I also tried to do something fun before, too!

Everyone has a different experience, mine wasn't too bad. I had more pain then I thought I would have, but on the whole, it was being managed nicely. Most drs. start giving you antibiotics thru your IV before you go into surgery. I had no infection problems. Just make sure while you're in the hospital you communicate with the staff about your pain level. At the hospital I was in they had a pain rating system, 1-10. They would ask you how you rate your pain and they would medicate you accordingly. You always want to stay ahead of the pain so it doesn't get too bad.

Take a deep breath, do something nice for yourself and know you can talk to anyone on this site for some moral support!

I'll be thinking of you! Take care!
