Diarrhea 5 days post op - TMI

I've been taking colace as prescribed 2ce daily since day 1 post op and after the first couple of days I was voiding my bowels pretty normally. The last couple of days my pain has been increasing and I had to go to a doctors appt (unrelated - 5 min away) and was hit by violent diarrhea. For the next four hours after I got home I barely left the bathroom...it's finally stopped but I'm shaking and feel like I'm running a fever (but am not) and the residual vaginal and abdominal pain is significant now due to the spasms.

I didn't eat anything weird, so I'm just cutting out the colace and restarting my bile sequesterant (which I have the green light for) to see if it resolves itself...my fear is that the spasms did some damage. I see the doctor on Thursday - will she be able to tell if something ripped internally?

I know I'm probably worried for nothing but it was like a fast and very intense round of stomach flu and I just hope nothing was damaged.

Re: Diarrhea 5 days post op - TMI

Chances are that it's ok, but watch out for signs of infection like fever, or for bleeding, or other unusual symptoms (I know that's a tall order after a hysterectomy everything seems unusual). You may want to give your doc a quick call and let her know what happened so she can decide if she wants to see you earlier, and it might give you some peace of mind. And it might make a difference with restarting your bile sequestrant... always best to ask.
