Unless your Dr. is preforming a new maricle TAH, I would say no way you are going to be healed after 1 week. I am going to be 6 weeks this friday and I am just finally starting to feel normal (knock on wood) and get back on a normal schedule. I would re-ask that question again to your Dr.. Good luck!!!

Hi Nikki. Your signature reads TAH but your profile reads TVH.
Originally with my LAVH, I was told one week recovery. It's been five days and I'm feeling pretty well. I stayed overnight and I'm not ready to go back to work but feeling much better than I anticipated. My doc ended up telling me four weeks would be good so I told my boss four to six weeks. From what I've read here, TAH you'll need anywhere from six to eight weeks initial recovery time. TVH probably considerably less but internally, I think the surgery is the same. You'll have internal sutures that require healing. If you're not keeping your ovaries, you'll have hormone issues to work out.
I'd suggest calling back and verifying the information. My doctor's office was great with all my phone calls!
Good luck and take care of yourself.

I had a TAH two years ago on May 12..gosh how time flies..and I am JUST now, starting to feel "normal"...a week phooey! And anybody who says it can be done...well, they obviously had a different op from me.
Hope it goes well

Thanks for responding
My insurance information showed the ICD 9 codes for a TAH or TVH. I haven't been told wich one I will be getting. I am just so darn confused. I guess they will know when they get in there. I just don't know how they know it is 1 wk recovery time.
I will call again or just wait for my pre-op. I feel like I am loosing my mind.
Thanks for your replies.

I'm having a TVH with repairs. If it was just the VH my recovery would be about 4 weeks but with the repairs it is 6-8 weeks.
Make sure you ask your doctor what he means by recovery. Is that bedrest, off work time, no lifting time, etc.

Please give me your opinion.....
Hi
I was originally scheduled for a TVH. In the course of going over questions & discussing time off work and all that with my doctors, Both my gyne and my urogynecologist told me that with a TVH, there was a "good chance" I could return to work in 4 weeks, as compared to the 6 weeks with the TAH, but that was not set in stone.
They suggested I tell my job 6 weeks off, THEN if I was good to go at 4 weeks after the TVH I could go back to work earlier. In the end, I had a TAH due to the size of my uterus & because it was tilted, so I was very glad I had arranged the full 6 weeks off work.
I'd call the dr's office and verify that one week recovery statement. Perhaps the nurse meant a week at home before you see the dr. post-op?? That's all I can think

Thank you for all your replies. I will call when I get the nerve up. I just have been so emotional, I know I better get myself together before I call the Dr.
I woke up this morning with terrible cramping and I have to keep telling myself it is almost over. Well, I am off to work 120 miles round trip. Won't that be fun after one week recovery.
Thanks,
Nikki
