Pre-op went well
Just wanted to say to you LIWs that I hope you have uneventful surgeries and speedy recoveries. Let us hear from you as soon as you feel up to it when you get home & join us in the chat room. Getting something to aid sleep the night before sounds like a good idea to me. I didn't have anything and had a hard time getting to sleep that night & didn't think to ask for something. My pre-op appt was 2 days before my surgery and no EKG was ordered (varies with dr or patient's history), but everything else sounds about the same as my visit. Hospitals and doctors have to have you sign consents to everything that could go wrong just in case, but don't let it worry you. And yes, we have to get catherized. The surgery takes at least 1 1/2 hours and you wouldn't want to worry that you wet the table. Plus, it's nice not having to get up at first to go to the bathroom. In most cases, the cath is removed the day of or day after unless you're having some other bladder work done. I know a million thoughts were going through my mind pre-op. Just try & relax and think about how much better you're going to feel after you recover.
