Upcoming hysterectomy 9/24: worried about surgery

hi ev1, my surgery is on 9/24/15. been having abnormally heavy periods with alot of pain, clots, dizziness, weak feelings, with almost no energy during them for about 8 to 10 years. time passes quick, never took time too take care of it till now. also finally had a doc say my quality of life is worth this. ( two docs actually) plus hystery of cancer on both sides of family. my worry, the doc said it is an outpatient surgery for insurance purposes, and i may need a catheter at home if my bladder is fused to my uterus. how likely is this? was he just preparing me for just in case, or is this normal?

Re: worried about surgery

My Dr told me if everything went well I could go home the same day. He said in 5% of cases there is an issue with bladder complications and which case it would be fixed while I was already in surgery. He said even though the risk is minimal he still had to prepare me for every possible outcome. Does he have a specific reason why he thinks you would have bladder complications? If not he was probably just preparing for any possible risks. Hope this helps

Re: worried about surgery

I had my LAVH surgery on 9/2/15 and I must admit it was best decision I made in a long time. Preparing for surgery was driving me crazy. All went well and I feel amazing. I was able to get around quickly. I am already back to work full time. No more pain, no more clotting....I wish I would have had the surgery sooner. Trust me - you will be fine. Keep a positive mind set and it will be over before you know it.
