so many questions.

I AM SCEDULED FOR SURGERY ON MONDAY, AND HAVE RUN THE ROLLERCOASTER OF EMOTIONS. I ONLY SAW THE GYN ONCE, AND HE SUGGESTED TAKING OUT THE ORGAN THAT WAS GIVING ME PAIN. I KNEW IT WAS COMING, AND I HAVE AGREED. HE THINKS THAT I HAVE ADENOMYOSIS. I HAVE EXPERIENCED PAIN FOR YEARS. THEY ALWAYS SAID IT WAS PROB. FIBROIDS OR SOMETHING. NOW THE PAIN IS PRETTY DARN BAD.
I AM OK WITH THE SURGERY, EVEN THO I DIDN'T THINK ABOUT IT FOR ALL THAT LONG. I AM NEARLY 42. GOD KNOWS I CERTAINLY DON'T WANT ANY MORE KIDS. THIS PAIN IS REALLY EFFECTING MY LIFE AND MY PERSONALITY IN GENERAL.
I SEARCHED AROUND THE WEB LOOKING FOR ANSWERS, AND QUITE FRANKLY GOT A LITTLE MORE CONFUSED.
FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO TALK TO MY DOCTOR TODAY. I WAS CONCERNED ABOUT REMOVING MY CERVIX. WHEN I WENT TO THE HOSPITAL FOR MY PREOP YESTERDAY, THEY INFORMED ME THAT I WAS SCHEDULED FOR VAGINALLY ASSISTED HYSTERECTOMY AND THAT HE HADN'T ORDERED SUPRACERVICAL WHICH WOULD NOT REMOVE THE CERVIX. WELL I SORT OF FREAKED.
AFTER TALKING TO HIM TODAY, HE SAYS THAT I CAN DO THAT IF I WISH. I HAD CERVICAL FREEZING FOR DYSPLASIA WHEN I WAS YOUNG, BUT MY PAP SMEARS HAVE BEEN NORMAL FOR AT LEAST 18 YEARS. THIS PROCEDURE IS LESS INVASIVE I HEAR, BUT WHAT DO I KNOW???
I HAVE ALWAYS HEARD THAT IT IS BETTER TO KEEP THE CERVIX FOR SUPPORT PURPOSES. IT'S ROLE IN SEX, WELL I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THAT.
I JUST PRAY THAT I AM DOING THE RIGHT THING. I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO GET MY MIND OFF IT FOR DAYS. I HAVE GOT TO GET IT TOGETHER.
ANYONE HAVE A TAKE ON THIS?

so many questions.

Chirs,
I am so sorry that you are going thru all this emotional and physical pain. Making the decision to have a hyster is never easy for any one at any age.

I have a friend (I met her on this website) that post poned her hyster twice before actually going thru with it. She just wasen't comfortable with the decision....She just e-mailed me this week and was saying she now feels releived that she went thru with it. She even laughs at herself for being so wishy-washy.

In the end, YOU need to be comfortable with your decision. I say, if you are not ready, post pone it a bit and re-think, re-group and have more open dialog with your doctor about the type of surgery and your options.

YOU are the one in control of your body and MUST be confident that you are doing the right thing for YOU.

Good luck to you and best wishes for what ever you decide to do. Keep us posted on what you decide.

so many questions.

Dear Chris:

If you opt to keep the cervix, the surgery will need to be laparascopic or abdominal.

I hope you are able to find the answers you need before your surgery on Monday.... If not, please consider postponing for a 2nd or 3rd medical opinion.

I am sending huge cyberhugs
