Soon to be a memeber

Well, I have been a member/lurker here for about 18 months. I first became a member when I was told a hysterectomy was needed. However, the Dr. wanted me to go through genetic testing to see if I might have the Cowdons syndrome. He said, if I had the gene, a "bigger" surgery might be necessary...i.e. Uterus, ovaries, and colon. My family has an extensive cancer pedigree. Needless, to say, that scared me off, other than very frequent periods, there were no symptoms of cancer. I understand, it is now a preventative measure, but, just a bit more than I was looking at. I didn't go back.

Over the last 18 months, I have religiously recorded my periods. They come every 14-18 days. They are regular, last about 6 days. They are NOT heavy and they are NOT painful.

About 2 months ago, I started dealing with major lower back pain and incontinence. I found a new OB/GYN and had my first appt. last week. GYN thinks I may have adenomyosis and fibroids.

My uterus is now the size of a 12 wk pregnant woman. Where, as 18 months ago was normal size. A biopsy has been done, am now waiting for results. I have ultra sound tomorrow. And will be having hysterectomy here in the very near future. She also wants to take the ovaries. I am 40, so have agreed. Will be going through my c-section scar.

A little nervous over the biopsy, my sister is a Uterine cancer survivor (almost 2 years cancer free). And it does run in the family.

So, all that to say, I will be joining the family...

Glad you found a new OB-GYN that you feel you can trust. The testing and waiting is way worse than knowing what you will face, I think. Good luck to you in this waiting phase. The operation is not as bad as the wait.
