has anyone had an LMA instead of intubation?

Hi everyone

My surgery date is looming -- just 32 hours to go -- and I'm feeling rather rattled, nervous, nowhere near ready (both mentally and practically).

One thing on my mind is the intubation for respiration during surgery. I use my voice professionally (as a singer and teacher of singing, among other things) and really want to avoid having a tube inserted between my vocal folds ("cords"). The anaesthesiologist used a balloon-like device called an LMA (I don't know what that stands for) when I had an endometrial ablation with general anaesthesia last year. Do any of you know whether that's an option for a hysterectomy?

Thanks to all of you who make this cyber-community so helpful and reassuring.

Hi, I don't know the answer to your question but think that it sure wouldn't hurt for you to ask the dr when you get to the hospital

Best wishes with your surgery tomorrow. You'll be in my prayers that all will go well for you.
