After a Hysterectomy, can a women be without estrogen?,,

HI SISTERS,
I WAS WONDERING, AFTER A WOMEN GOES FOR THE HYSTERECTOMY..(EVERYTHING REMOVED), CAN SHE DO WITHOUT THE MAN MADE ESTROGEN? I MAY GO FOR THE SURGERY DO TO A ANEXAL MASS, BUT I AM WORRIED THAT THE ESTROGEN WILL CAUSE CANCER IN THE FUTURE. JUST WORRIED!! IF YOU CAN HELP ME WITH SOME INFORMATION, PLEASE.

I'm 7 months post op and had a TAH/BSO and never took any estrogyn. I have swithced to soy milk with my cereal ( that is a photoestrogyn) and helped with the hot flashes. I t was rough during the first 3 - 4 months after surgery with hot flashes - but now I'm not getting them but once every few days. The night sweats still come, but I'm sleeping sooooo much better and as long as I stay really cool (told Hubby to sleep with warm sweats) its OK.

Yes - I am living proof! I had a TAH/BSO about 2 1/2 years ago primarily due to severe endo, but I also had adenomyosis and a history of fibroids. I have not taken any estrogen for the last 10 months and I'm doing quite well.

It can be tougher for younger women to adjust to life without estrogen. I'm 48 now and closer to a natural menpause anyway, but a woman of 35 would be producing a higher level of estrogen so instant menopause would likely cause more menopausal symptoms like night sweats, hot flashes, etc.

We have a special forum here called the "Desert Oasis" specifically for women who are unable to take estrogen or have chosen not to take it for a variety of reasons. You might want to check it out.

Bottom line: many women are doing just fine without estrogen or any other HRT after having a hyst and ovary removal.
