Kim,
Waiting is the hardest part without a doubt. Try to stay present in the moment and stay busy doing things that you really enjoy. I know it seems the "day" will never get here but it does, and you will be amazed how quickly your thoughts will turn from worry to calmness that it is all over.

Then the healing starts, be sure and pamper yourself and REST. You will still be 100% woman and feel so much better that all the pain and discomfort is gone.

Prayers for you,
Kathleen

Kim Possible (from another Kim)
I too am in the waiting mode with my pre-op this afternoon. I have blood work and then a meeting with my DR but no EKG. I work 2 more days and then am off to prepare for my surgery on the 20th. Last night I cried in the bathtub for the first time. I patted my stomach and said goodbye to all those parts that have served me so long. I am greatly looking forward to having it all behind me and am glad to have had sisterhysters along with me.

Pre-op for me was very easy. All they did was take a blood sample and do an ekg. Every dr has their own list of things to do at pre-op...some women watch a video, fill out papers, etc. It's usually pretty easy.

As you approach your surgery day, it does seem that's all you can think about. Do take some time for yourself....have lunch with a friend, spend the day getting pampered at a spa, get a manicure/pedicure or take in a movie. Just do something you really enjoy.

Take care and keep us posted.

14 hrs till preop

I'm back from my pre-op. It was such a great day because my husband and I went to the beach in the morning (its 85 degrees here in Florida) and then rode our bikes 6 miles to eat out for his birthday at a Ruby Tuesday's that was next door to the hospital. Then we went and had my blood drawn, signed papers and paid rest of deductible. And oh yes, had my pink hospital band put on with strict orders not to take it off until surgery. I had told my husband beforehand that this might happen and he scoffed saying they wouldn't do that. I told him my Hyster Sisters had told me they had it done so we would see. And you were right! Then I met with my doctor, asked all my pre-op questions and went over the surgery. I will be having a general, morphine pump, no bowel prep or shaving and a private room. I will stay 2 or 3 days depending on whether I have a LAVH or TAH. My husband was with me so he could ask questions too. Thanks to this hystersisters site I was familiar with everything my Dr. talked about otherwise it would have taken much longer to explain everything. I work today and tomorrow and then am off for 3 days. My surgery is at 7:30 am on the 20th. On my days off I plan on doing yoga, walking, meditating and lots of pampering. I have 3 stacks of books I checked out from the library, dVD's lined up and am ready to get this over with.

kscop,
Sounds as though you feel much better since preop, and that's good! Preop helped me, because I realized this was REALLY going to happen, and I cleaned my house like a madwoman for three days! I stopped the night before surgery, because doc made me shower in a special soap and didn't want to get all sweaty! Try to relax, do some things out and about, it'll help keep you focused on the quiet rest you need to get when you come home, without driving you bonkers from cabin fever! Good luck, and we'll be praying for you!

Thanks for the good wishes. I am very blessed and fortunate to have a supportive husband of 25 years who is disabled and stays at home while I work. He does all the cooking including making my lunches to take to work and housecleaning so I don't have to do anything to get my house ready, just get myself ready!

Try Having Another 2+ Weeks To Go!

I can commisserate. I have to wait until May 3rd for my TAH/BSO with A& P repair and am already getting nervous. I have a very busy schedule between now and then and hopefully that will get me through. Also have just started my LAST of these ****able periods...knowing I won't have to go through anymore helps a lot.
