3 weeks post op TAH

I am exactly 3 weeks postop , thought I would be feeling a lot better by now ,still having some sharp pain sometimes in the incision site and if I walk more than 10 minutes I feel tired not sure if this is normal for three weeks? Somedays my stomach still feels bloated as well. I keep reading that some people are going back to work after three or four weeks, I don't feel close to ready for work...at my work I am on my feet for nine hours a day and do lifting of 40 lbs. I keep feeling I am behind schedule. I guess it's just day by day. I am definitely feeling mentally better now then I was the first 2 weeks....my body just does not want to co-operate. I have not even driven yet because sitting to long in an upright position still causes me some discomfort.

Re: 3 weeks post op TAH

I'm 3 weeks post op as of Wed. and there is absolutely no way I'm ready to go back to work! Don't feel like you're behind, you're not. You probably won't be ready for work for awhile since you do lifting, 6-8 weeks is the general rule for lifting and even then 40 lbs is alot. If you can be off, stay off. I'm not going back til after the holidays. I'm bored out of my mind but I have a physically demanding job and won't risk it. LIke you, my incision hurts and I tire easily. Let yourself heal, don't compare your recovery to others. I've spent alot of time reading posts on here and thats a common theme.

Re: 3 weeks post op TAH

I agree with CheriV, do not compare your recovery to others. Everyone heals differenty and at different rates. You are not behind schedule. I think that you healing at the right rate. Average time for initial healing for a TAH is 6 to 8 weeks. Full healing could take up to 6 months to a yr. Your body has been through a lot . Give it time, you'll get your energy back. Right now just concentrate on your healing. Listen to your body. Rest it when it tells you to, keep walking, eating right and drinking plenty of fluids.
When you are released to go back to work, ease your way into it if it is at all possible. You will be doing heavy lifting, so you don't want to rush things

Hang in there and be patient

Lots of ((HUGS)) to you

Re: 3 weeks post op TAH

For many woman weeks 3 and 4 are worse than weeks 1 and 2 You will start to feel more like yourself soon Hun. I was released for only light house work at 6 weeks and was not released fully until week 8. We forget something this us major surgery and we all heal at a different pace. This only means that your body may need more additional TLC. It takes a full 12 months for our bodies to be completely healed after this surgery. Give yourself some time Hun. Very soon you will be feeling much better. Hang in there.
