Novice questions about recovery

Ladies....

Had my TAH/BSO Tuesday (16th) and came home Thursday (18th). Doing extremely well I think..... but wonder if my definition of "wellness" is in accordance with the accepted laws of recovery here with Hystersister.

I take my regular pre-surgery meds which include Aleve 2x day and a stool softener. To these, I've added my pain medication and gas x as needed.

Activity-wise.... I've walked (upright and with the support of a binder from the hospital) several times to the end of our lane and back. Not sure of the exact measurement but it's a nice distance and I so enjoy being outside this time of year.

I care for things that I can manage within my home.... things that are within my limits for this phase of my recovery.

My questions are:

Do I need to rest more.... simply because "it's the thing to do"?

I have had no bleeding at all and after reading several posts here I'm wondering if that is something I need to be expecting.

Glad to hear from others going along and through all of this at the same time. You girls are on my heart and I'm praying the best for each of you.....

Take care ...... and we'll "talk" again soon!!

Novice questions about recovery

Hi There,
I had just slight spotting the day of surgery, and nothing else, and so have alot of other ladies. Something that alot of other ladies have experienced is spotting later on, usually in response to excess activity. As far as rest goes, at least the way I see it, you should do what your body tells you. If you feel you need rest, well then rest. Daily walks are good, I did the same thing.
I am glad that you are feeling well.

Novice questions about recovery

I'd second the "do what your body tells you" advice. Some women have had a very hard time, and are able to do very little; others are a little luckier. I was a lucky one, and was relatively active (doing minor household chores, without lifting, or vacuuming, of course) in less than a week after surgery, and walking close to a mile at the same point. I was driving very short distances in about a week and a half, and my recovery (now at 10 weeks...or is it 11? I can't remember) has gone very well. In between, of course, I watched a lot of TV and read a lot of magazines, and I still get tired and a little bit achey if I overdo it, but generally, it's been very good. I think if you feel like moving a little bit, and don't notice any bad reactions, go for it. As for the bleeding--none for me, except a very minor episdode the day after surgery.

I hope your recovery continues to go well!

Novice questions about recovery

Dinkum,

My surgery was October 5 and I had no bleeding for the first 10 days, then I started spotting mostly after a BM. The doctor said it was fine and I could expect some spotting and then some bleeding at weeks 4-6 when the internal stiches start to dissolve bleeding was Ok as long as it was no more then a regular period (whatever that means). I would go with the soaking through a pad within an hour rule, if that happens either I call my dr or go to the ER.

Thanks, sukipup....

I've had a very little spotting this morning - first since day of surgery (16th).... kinda did more than I now think I should have yesterday.... Planning much less activity today....

The encouragement and consolation from fellow-sisters has been a life-line throughout all of this. Don't know what I'd have done without ya'll.

Thanks again!!
