1 week post hysterectomy - night sweats, hot flashes and spotting?????

Okay so last week I had a total hysterectomy it was vaginal. I bounced back like crazy. I honestly figured I would b laid up in terrible pain etc etc. I have my ovaries and my tubes. I'm off my pain meds during the day but by night time I need them. I wake up covered in sweat to the point of changing bedding and clothes. Is this normal? Also I have hot flashes like no other and I'm an emotional hot mess. Will all this balance out anytime soon or is this going to stay? I'm normally the cold one in the house and now I'm freezing everyone out. Also mild spotting is that normal or did I possibly mess up a stitch some how? Sorry I'm so new to all of this.

Hi Sgtwilsonswifey, welcome to Hystersisters!
The hot flashes, night sweats, and emotional changes are all completely normal; I kept both my ovaries and had exactly the same thing! It's quite common for the ovaries to temporarily shut down after a hysterectomy; they should resume normal functioning within a few weeks. If you're still having these issues after that, or if they become debilitating, ask your doctor if you can take something for them. As for the nighttime pain, check with your doctor or pharmacist as to whether you can take a nighttime version of your pain medications, because they contain an extra ingredient to help you sleep. As for the light spotting, I think that's normal after a TVH; perhaps those who have had that type of surgery can fill you in on that. Best wishes for your continued recovery!

Hi there, I had all the same issues as you including the spotting and light bleeding and it is completely normal unless it is as much as a period. As for the night sweats I was waking up with a soaking wet head and nightgown. This stopped after about two weeks, but for some it takes longer for the ovaries to wake up. My bleeding persisted and I've had spotting which my doctor says is normal during initial recovery and healing which can be 6 to 10 weeks depending on the person. I am 6.5 weeks post op. I hope all levels out soon! Get some rest, don't over do it, and give this some time. If things get worse don't hesitate to call your doctor.
