One week post hysterectomy, left side pain

My hysterectomy was Oct 4, I had a bad congested cough the first few days after surgery with sneezing due to allergies. Since then I have had a lot of pain on my left side that I don't think is incision pain.
It does not hurt when I am still. Could I have pulled a muscle?

Re: One week post hysterectomy, left side pain

It could very well be a pulled muscle. I fractured a rib once from intense coughing while driving on a long distance trip!

Two other possibilities: Left side is the "home stretch" of the colon and I dealt with sluggish bowels off and on for 7-8 weeks. If I had any bowel cramps, that side is where I'd feel them. I also had some nerve pain on the left side between two of my incisions. The pain wasn't where anything was snipped, but things still get stretched and separated near where the actual internal incisions are.

If it's inflammation from healing, ice will probably feel great on where you're hurting. If it's a muscle strain, heat may feel better - heat will increase circulation, so be aware of that. You can always run it by your doctor. Are you taking ibuprofen?

Thank you for your reply. It is actually feeling much better today and yes, I am taking ibuprofen.
