One day post-op

Hello!
I had surgery yesterday morning. I was worried pre-op because they weren't even sure what was causing my pain. They did see fibroids but said they were small - size of walnut, however one was in a "bad" spot. I decided to proceed because my pain was so bad that I was taking 2 sick days off work each month curled up in the fetal position.
Well, it turns out after surgery that I not only had bad fibroids but I also had endometriosis surrounding one ovary and the abdominal wall. This did not show up on ultrasounds. So I am sooooo glad I went through with it. I did maintain one ovary so as not to go into menopause. We just have to hope that the remaining endometriosis in the abdominal wall or spreads to other ovary doesn't cause too much pain going forward or I could be back in surgery!
The pain has not been too bad at all. I have some pain in the area of the stitches but similar to doing too many sit-ups (someone else here described it that way). I have had cramping internally that has been the worse, but not worse than my last few periods. And this time, I get to take good drugs for it!
I stayed over night which was both good and bad. Good because I was in really bad pain during the night and they had to give morphine, plus piece of mind that I was being watched and monitored for fever and blood pressure. But I had no chance at sleep. I got home today and slept 3 hours straight. Feeling much better now.
It is difficult to get up - I'm getting the roll down when moving in and out of bed. Now time to go have my first shower!

Re: One day post-op

I'm so glad that the reason for your pain was discovered. I imagine that you wanted to tell everyone "I told you so!". I had surgery last week Friday and also had a terrible time getting out of bed initially. It's easier everytime you do it. Now on post-op day 4, I don't have any trouble getting out of bed at all.
Good luck with your recovery and please, please, please, take it easy! And just so you know, that piece of advice is as much for you as it is for me! Lol!
