Time before hysterectomy surgery is scheduled (how long)

I'm very curious about the average time it takes to get a surgery date from the time of seeing the surgeon to being admitted. I live in NY, will need to go through insurance approvals, short term disability leave from work, etc. I know the surgeons schedule, OR availability impacts the time - but I was hoping to get an idea of the average wait time.

I'm seeing a GYN Oncologist tomorrow to get the ball rolling so I'll have an idea of how long it may take for me.

My doctor started pushing the OR for a room ASAP to schedule my surgery. It ended up being a three week wait from first Gyn appt to surgery date. It's working out tho as my insurance requires specific tests to be done pre op, and we've also had to fight ins to allow me to stay overnight. I know some ladies get in much quicker, but there are also some that have quite a long waiting period. All I can tell you is to get that ball rolling!! You can't get done if you don't start!! It really depends on your situation and your doctor's availability. For me, there were 10 days between being told I needed a hysterectomy to being in the OR. I read one woman had a three day notice! Other women I read have waited months.

So the time frame is all over the place. You should find out more when you meet with your doctor.

Last year I had a lap done, I had a 2 month wait for that.

I just scheduled my hyst, I am waiting roughly a month and a half for that. I was hoping sooner, but the insurance companies need time I guess.

Mine was three weeks from the decision being made to surgery.
