No pre-op visit?

I am having TAH on 11/30/04 and am seeing that most of you are going to see your doctors prior to the surgery.

I don't have an appointment and the only prep I have been told to do is to not eat or drink after midnight the night b4 surgery.

Is there something wrong here?

No pre-op visit?

What is the time span between the day you scheduled your hyst and the date your hyst is going to be performed? I know I have a pre-op because I scheduled my hyst in August and it's not until Dec. If I would've been able to have it closer to my visit date, I wouldn't have had a pre-op, but because there is so much time in between(sp) them I have a pre-op to go over any concerns/questions I have come up with since then.

I would definitely ask for one if you have any questions or concerns!

No pre-op visit?

Hysteree,
I am in the same boat. I guess there has been only 3 weeks since my visit and my soon-to-be surgery. Seems longer, though. So, I wasn't sure why I am not having a pre-op, either. I have been given the same instructions as you, except mine added an enema the night before surgery.
Glad I cam to this site, though, because I have received a ton of info.
When's your surgery?
Good luck,
Ronda

No pre-op visit?

The last time I saw my DR was the day we scheduled surgery, 6 weeks before surgery. I asked if I'd have another apt and she said only if there was a drastic change in my condition. I did have a pre op at the hospital about a week in advance. That was for signing admission papers, then I saw a nurse for an extensice medical history interview. She gave me the pre op intructions - bowel prep, no eating after midnight, no fingernail polish, what time to arrive. I also went to the lab for a blood draw.

Not every DR requires any type of bowel prep, and also sometimes it's done in the morning at the hospital.

If you have any questions or are wondering about whether you should have a pre op apt call your DR's office and ask.

Best wishes.

No pre-op visit?

At my pre-op (the week before surgery) I saw GYN resident who took a complete medical history, checked my heart, etc., sent me to the lab for bloodwork in case I needed any blood during surgery. It would seem like a pre-op would be important to identify any problems that could come up from the anesthesia.

No pre-op visit?

I don't have a pre op appt, either. Just what I had last week, when we decided to go ahead with surgery. She had explained what all would happen, etc... Did your dr explain it all to you?

Don't worry, every dr is different!

No pre-op visit?

I saw my doctor near the end of October, when we decided to go ahead with a hysterectomy. He said he wouldn't need to see me again before surgery. I do have to go by the hospital the Friday before surgery to do the pre-admitting paperwork and let them draw some blood and whatever else they need to do.

No pre-op visit?

I saw Dr on 11/9/04 Ultrasound 11/11/04 decison for surgery made 11/12 I had a pre-op visit with Dr 11/18 and the hospital preop is today at 3:20 Surgery is set for 11/29/04 at 7:30am. The visit with the Dr was to decide if we are taking ovaries which we did and he answered all my questions. He also explained what would happen in surgery and at the hospital. He is very patient and really easy to talk to. Not sure what the hospital per-op will be like but the only test on my paperwork from DR is pregancy test. He told me no bowel prep Yeah!!!!!

I think I would want to see my Dr right before surgery just to answer my questions and calm my fears. I know see mine really helped in that regard. But I guess all Drs are different

No pre-op visit?

Saw my Dr. on 10/22 and decided to go ahead with the TVH. I have an appt. the Dr. on 12/1 and then immediately afterwards, will go to the hospital for pre-admit paperwork, lab work, and anesthesiologist consult, etc. My surgery is scheduled for one week later on 12/8.

I think most hospitals/Dr.s require some type of pre-op paperwork, so if you are unsure, I would call the nurse at the Dr.'s office, just to find out one way or another. I would rather do that then possibly have my surgery postponed.
