Belly STILL sore?

I have noticed that even though it's been about 6 weeks since my TAH I am still experiencing a little soreness. I thought that would be gone by now.

Is this something to be concerned about?

Also, it could just be a coincidence, but it seems like when I where anything besides cotton panties it becomes more sore. Is there an actual connection here? Maybe I should just stick to cotton?

Re: Belly STILL sore?

From the articles I have read, I think we will be sore or tender for many weeks. I watched a you tube video of a TAH, and now I fully understand why I am still sore. It's amazing what was cut open for that surgery. Are you back at work yet?

Re: Belly STILL sore?

Thanks Txhsteacher for the reassurance! I find that I get worried when things go on for what I consider too long.

I made the mistake of watching a video of the surgery prior to my surgery date - I say mistake because it increased my anxiety. But they definitely did a lot of internal work.

Luckily I am a grad student so I have the entire summer to rest and take care of myself. I registered for a summer class but dropped it - too much sitting and memory work.

Re: Belly STILL sore?

Wow - 11 weeks! So this is normal? I hope your belly feels better soon, that's a long time.

The hardest part for me is the looks some people give me when I say my belly is still sore after all of this time. It's almost as if they don't believe me or something. I guess until you have this type of surgery one doesn't really know.

Re: Belly STILL sore?

My belly is still sore and my surgery was over 4 months ago. When I tell my husband he doesn't believe me, thinks I'm lying or something!? Some days it doesn't hurt but others, depending on what I do, what I wear, or how much time I spend sitting at my desk, it's still sore, tender, and stings. I think it's just going to take a while. Somebody told me that if they go in thru an old c-section scar that it takes longer to heal, but I don't know if that's the reason or not. I'm trying to be patient, I think it's something that time will eventually take care of....

Re: Belly STILL sore?

My DR told me that I might still have "a little reminder" like pain as far as 6 months. She said it's a reminder that I had MAJOR surgery less than 6 months ago. She said all the stitches should be dissolved by 3 months usually. She said it could take up to 12 months until I'm 100% better. So I'm expecting to feel better everyday with "little reminders" when I'm doing too much for at least 6 months. I'm 5 weeks post-op and my belly STILL hurts!
