6 Days Post abdominal hysterectomy and Back Pain

I am 6 days post op with TAH removal of my uterus and have started feeling back pain. I never felt this before. Is this normal? Will it ever go away? It's mainly at night.

Yes, this is totally normal. I had the back pain but much later than you did. For some reason, about two weeks after I had my surgery, I had intense lower back pain that was so bad I was reaching for the pain killers. It eventually subsided after a day or two. I think it has to do with the fact that after surgery, you're not using your abdominal muscles at all so you start recruiting muscles in your back to move around.

I remember bsck pain as well after my TAH. I was walking hunched over for a good long while and that alone hurt my back. I also had to rely much more on my back muscles since my poor stomach muscles were so sore.

There's a couple of different things that may be contributing. One is that your back is getting less support from your abdominal muscles than usual. The effect builds up throughout the day as you're standing and walking, so it's worse at the end of the day.

Also, have you been lying/sleeping on your back? Is that how you usually sleep? I can't lie on my back for more than a couple of hours without my back seizing up. I can't sleep in that position at all. Fortunately I was able to sleep on my side after surgery.

Yep normal. I usually sleep on my side. But haven't be able to without pain so my back hurts all the time. Muscle spasms. The heating pad helps and I stretch a lot too
