fibroids, back pain and cervix

I am scheduled for a TAH this Friday the 15th and i am still undecided on the removal of my cervix. My doctor told me that if i did not have it removed the chance of having mini-periods would be very high. I have heard that if you just have your cervix cauterized that this eliminates this problem.
I am also hoping that this fibroid is causing all my back and radiating leg pain which is getting harder and harder to live with.

Re: fibroids, back pain and cervix

I have done some research on this and have read about women having mini periods when they retain their cervix. Cauterization does help but is not a 100% guarantee. But there are several wonderful women here who have been cauterized and can speak highly of this procedure. I just want you to be aware that it is not always 100%!

I do hope that your pain subsides and you are feeling better than ever in no time!

My doctor removed my cervix because I had the back pain, endo, etc and he was afraid if he left it, my pain would not completely go away. Talk to your doctor.

Re: fibroids, back pain and cervix

Hi Goodluck,

In my case, I had my cervix cauterized during my laparoscopic hyst (LSH) and I have not had any mini-periods in post-op. Generally, ladies who have a mini-period reply that they need a pantyliner at that time of the month.

Best wishes~

Re: fibroids, back pain and cervix

my cervix was cauterized during my lsh and i dont have mini-periods. if you feel strongly about keeping it, you need to tell your dr your wishes and not let him talk you into something you dont want to do. i dont think the risk of having mini-periods is "very high" at all..only a small percentage of women have them and usually they are visable while wiping and dont require protection. do lots of research before you make your decision and do what you feel is right. good luck!
