drainage tubes

Are drainage tubes used in hysterectomies?

Had LAVH and small drainage tube in one of the incisions. It was removed the next morning. Not sure of other procedures.

My drain tube was removed after 5 days. It was drained several times a day. Connie

I had a drain when I woke from my TAH. I had it in for about 1 week. It was not bad at all. I had no pain with it, and no pain with it coming out.

Do all hosptials use drain tubes for a hysterectomy? Do they take the drain tubes out in the hospital? My stay is only 2-3 days.

I had no drainage tubes and I was out of the hospital the next day. I had a LAVH.

hi all, i had a drainage tube, was in hospital 4 days, came home with it, kept it for two weeks, i suffered, i found out i was/am allergic to latex and staples i am 6 weeks almost! yea! i feel pretty good. good luck all.

I had a tvh and had no drain tube.

I had a TAH with a drain which was removed the next day. It was NOT painful.

Having a drainage tube in after surgery was one of my fears...along side waking up too early or not waking up at all....believe me, I became "Queen of the Worriers"...

But I was reassured that I wouldn't need a drainage tube in, and just got on with surgery. Woke up seven hours later, to find one in......Not a great start.

Have to say though....never bothered me...didn't hurt being in, didn't hurt coming out. Just bled loads during surgery so needed it in.

Hope that you go ok during surgery...worry is normal, and natural, but trust me, the drainage tube is not a major deal.
