Grrrr....Jury Duty
Hello Sisters,
Just in case my upcoming Hyster wasn't enough excitement (LOL) today I got a summons for Federal Jury Duty. Woo hoo !!
I am supposed to report for duty the first 2 weeks of August ....my Hyst is Sept. 8. I'm going to talk to my Dr. on Tuesday and see if I can get a medical excuse letter.
Do you think the Judge will let me leave every 20 minutes to pee....or every hour or so to change my sanitary products ?!? Of course this all has to fall during period time.
Any advice ?? This is the last thing I need to worry about right now....I was planning on using August to get my house cleaned and get the kids ready to return to school.
I apologize for whining....I'm just so frustrated.
Help ?!?!
Thank you
Love & Hugs,
Michelle

Grrrr....Jury Duty
my jury duty was only 3 weeks, it may be a good way to make time fly before surgery. If it were me, I would just get it over with.

Grrrr....Jury Duty
I know that if I had Jury Duty while Aunt Flo was visiting, the whole thing would have to go on hold every 20 or 30 minutes so I could be excused to change my extra-super-heavy-duty-soak-up-the-ocean-tampons-plus-pads!! Yikes!! I hope your doctor will give you a letter!! I would hate to have to explain the whole thing!! I had jury duty years ago, and if people didn't want to serve, they had to explain it to the judge as well as lawyers from both sides. In my case, they were all male!! The whole jury pool was also present!! I'll be thinking of you... let us know how it goes!! And try not to let all this junk drive you nuts!!

Check out your state law. Here in CA, you can request hardship and they will put it off for a year. When I got married, there was a jury summons waiting for me in the mail after I got home from my week long honeymoon. I filled out the form and told them it would be hard to take more time off work, and they accepted. It wasn't even as good as an excuse as an upcoming major surgery! They did, however, summon me again in exactly a year, so be prepared for that. If you do need a medical excuse, I'm sure your dr would be happy to provide it for you. IMHO, I'd definately want to put it off.
Good luck!

Here in the UK if you have a medical problem that means you would have to stop the procedings every 20mins you would be excused Jury service, I think if AF is on a visit with your medical problem & the fact that it will be sorted out by the time next year comes alone I would pospone.
What if the Jury service ran past your op date? there is no garentee that you will get a short case, it could run for more that a couple of weeks. You cannot leave mid-case or it would be a miss-trile & I don't think I would want to cancel surgery for that.
A friend of mine waited around the courts for 2 weeks & on her last day was called for a case that lasted 3 months. I'm not saying this would happen, but if it were me I would get the exemption form straight back saying no can do.

In NY you can postpone once, for up to one year, and then you have to serve. You should be able to just fill out the form and send it in without a note. If you've already postponed then definitely talk to your doctor. Just because you're selected for jury duty doesn't mean you'll get picked for a jury either.
Good luck!

Hi, I have postponed jury duty for lots of reasons, i was allowed to pick some date (i think up to a year away). i get picked for jury duty nearly every year. they do remember and will call you at that time. i hope your state does the same. otherwise I am sure your doc will write you an excuse for this one. good luck, dee

Personally, I think that if you are bleeding so badly that you have to change a pad every 30 minutes or so, you would not be able to provide the attention necessary to this case. Therefore, neither side would want you sitting on the jury. I understand your problem. Who wants to tell a judge and lawyers they can't sit on the jury because of a heavy period. (Sounds like we're trying to get out gym class, huh? I remember gym class with heavy periods--ugh. But, back to the subject at hand.) Surely a note from your doc would do the trick.
Also, as someone else noted, there are no guarantees that the trial would be over by time for surgery. Then what? Will they let you go and let an alternate take your place? Or would you have to reschedule? Is it fair to the defendant for you to sit on the jury and then have to back out if the trial isn't over?
Lastly, these things can be stressful. I think that's the last thing you need right now. You need to be preparing for surgery--getting your recovery room prepared, packing for the hospital, etc. So, for what it's worth, my opinion is to speak up, tell the truth and see if you can postpone jury service.

Grrrr....Jury Duty
Hi Sisters,
Thank you all so very much for your concern, advice, and words of comfort !!
I totally agree....I could not give my full attention to anything going on in court if I was sitting there worrying about flooding the chair. Or wondering if the case was going to extend past my surgery date. I do not mind at all doing my 'jury time' I just don't feel this is the best time to do it.
I got called last year also but hubby was in a wheel chair due to a broken hip and they let me postpone. I'm hoping they will let me postpone again....I'll tell them I pinky swear that I will serve as soon as possible. LOL.
LOL Jan....yep....sounds like gym class !!! Teacher /Your Honor may I please be excused due to huge clots and flooding ?!?! Ewwww.
Thank you again- I'll let you know how everything turns out.
Love & Hugs,
Michelle
p.s I just realized today that Jury Duty also falls right during our family vacation. Grrr..again. We've already put a non-refundable deposit on the hotel room. I hope this all works out.

Grrrr....Jury Duty
Hi Sisters,
I went to my Dr.'s office today and took all of the jury papers with me....they are going to write a medical excuse for me and then fax all of the info. to the Court.
I'll be keeping my fingers crossed that they will excuse me . LOL !
My Dr. and her staff were great about it....no problems at all. I have realized that having a wonderful Dr. makes this whole experience much easier.
Thank you all for your help !!
Love & Hugs,
Michelle
