Pre-Op question

Hello Sisters:

Could ya'll tell me what to expect a my Pre-Op appt.? It's this Monday. I called the DR office today and asked if there was something they could give me to calm me down alittle, I have a lot of stress at work with alot of legal issues happening right now and now worring about my surgery on the 23rd. When I really get stressed I get physically and emotionally sick and my neck & shoulders gets really stiff.. I can feel them getting tight now. Well the nurse said to try to remain calm and when I go for my Pre-op appt. tell them how I'm doing and they might help. But try to remain calm and not raise my blood pressure because they will cancel the surgery if its to high. I just had a colonoscopy 2 weeks ago (polyps) with a very stiff neck. That wasn't fun at all. And a month before that was a D & C and 2 months before that it was a m/c. Its been a real emotional rollercoaster. I will be glad when things calm down. Now I 've got to worry about being off from work for 6 weeks and the bills piling up. I could go on and on. I'm sorry. Just need to vent. Love 2 all.

to calm

I was given darvosets for pain and told I could take some other over the counter meds with it too. They also told me I could take tylenol pm at night to help me sleep. You can't take any aspirin products though, so check with them before taking anything to make sure that won't get your surgery cancelled. I know some have been given ambien to help them sleep.

The best thing I did was call the hospital and talk to the nurse in charge of my case-she was so helpful about it all. And then I also called the anethesiologist's office and they put me through to the one on call that day. He was so reassuring and kind, and answered all my questions about that. He also said that a calm and relaxed patient going in makes the fastest healer going out of surgery.

I took favorite music CD's and player into the preop room and that helped me focus and stay calm.

If your gyn's office doesn't help, make an appointment with your regular GP and discuss it with them. Maybe that doc can help.
