Roadblocks and Tentative Date (endo, adeno, boggy uterus, age 29, need second doctor to agree on hysterectomy)

Hi everyone!

After 5 years of doctors telling me my symptoms are normal, my ultrasounds are normal, my exams are normal and here try this birth control, I finally got a good doctor. I went through years of birth control, normal, continuous, progesterone only, dermal, ring and IUD with no relief from pain and long, heavy periods. Even with a family history of issues, the only thing that got done was ultrasounds. As a student of science and advocate of my health, I begged for a laparoscopy so I could get answers.

When I found my awesome doctor, I showed him my documentation which included period and pain logs, ultrasounds, family history (endometriosis, fibroids and cysts) and a list of all birth control I had tried. After a painful exam, a common occurrence which I noted, he wasted no time in investigating.

I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy done on the 12th. We discovered endometriosis behind my left ovary that is too close to ureter to be removed. My uterus was large, boggy and blanched white suggesting adenomyosis. At the follow-up, we discussed treatment options and efficacy. Ablation and Lupron were dropped on the table but followed with lack of efficiency against adenomyosis and short-term solution.

Having been through this since 2011, I'm looking for permanent and preventative. Kids were not a part of my decision for personal reasons. I have also never had any. My doctor has agreed and I signed the consent and am tentatively scheduled for LAVH on March 3rd. I will be keeping both of my ovaries since they are healthy. I say tentatively because Michigan has requirements for a hysterectomy and my age doesn't help them.

Aside from 30 day waiting period between signed consent and surgery, I need to get a second opinion that agrees with my doctor from an outside clinic. This is my roadblock. A history of doctors who wouldn't do anything. I visited a doctor last week, armed with surgical report, and she said no. She didn't agree because I was too young (I am 29) and would be regretful. She also said "you don't know what God's plan for you is."

I need support. I feel discouraged. I want this and know it is my best option. How do I get a doctor to look past age and see me clinically? I'm worried I won't get an agreeing second opinion and that my surgery will get cancelled.

Anyone else finding these roadblocks?

Thanks for listening.

Hi WillowCatkins -

I am so sorry you are going through all of this. I do not know how to help you - I wish I did.

We do have lots of ladies on this site, so hopefully one with similar experience will see this post and respond.
