How long does surgery take?

Hi there orlandobloom! And welcome to Hystersisters.

Yes, I had the full thing, totl hysterectomy with removal of both tubes and ovaries. The surgery was to take 2 hrs and it took about 30 min longer. I was in recovery and then back in my room where my family met me. The surgeon met them in the family waiting room to tell them how it went and all that.

My surgeon was a gynecologic oncologist because the mass on my left ovary was so large (the size of a basketball) a regular gyn wouldn't touch it. My PCP found the mass. I had both internal and external ultrasounds done like you. Also had the CT scan with contrast. I had a vertical incision done because the surgeon said she would need the room to look around at all my organs since my blood work showed there was a high likelihood of finding a malignancy. Did your doc do a CA-125 blood test? Mine was extremely high. But the actual carcinoma found was very small and limited to one ovary and a weeny bit on the tube. taken care of by the surgery itself.

If you are not comfortable with what your doc is telling you, then ask for a second opinion.

This website is a great site, full of understanding women who have been through what you are about to experience. They are an encouraging lot and it has been unspeakably helpful in this whole experience. There is usually someone around most of the time, day or night and people post back quickly. There are also some resources available for husbands, called Mister Hystersisters.

Hang in there! My thoughts and prayers will be with you.

How long does surgery take?

I went into the OR a little after 11am (surgery in front of me put him behind). They came out to the waiting room for my DH about 2:30pm.
I have a very big belly so that took a little extra time to cut and sew up. Also they wait for the path report on the wash to see if they have to take the lymp nodes out for exam also. My wash came back neg so they left my lymp nodes in.

How long does surgery take?

I was told two and a half hours, and it ended up three. I had bleeding issues, and also had a bladder/urethra sling put in too, so that made it a bit longer. I went in at 9 am and was in my room by 1 pm.
