Scar having problem healing

Wow, this is an amazing opportunity for all women. I had my abdominal hysterectomy on May the 14. 3 weeks today. My incision is from my belly button to my pubic bone due to all the past surgeries. I slept in a recliner for the first week ans i don't know if that was the best decision due to the fact that there is still a tiny hole mid scar. I tore it open a week and a half ago getting out of my chair, yes, rolling sideways, and, ok, laughing extremely hard at a joke. I literelly busted my stiches! I am on antibiotics to make sure that i don't get an infection in the little opening(covered at all times). So, if anyone has any little stories, words of wisdom, would love to hear them. My sleep is right off the wall too. Getting blood work done, have been on bio-identical hormones for 2 years already. I don't know what i am to do or not to do. Sitting and healing is way different then demolishing homes and building them!!!!

thankx, renski

Re: Scar having problem healing

renski, it's awesome that you had something to laugh about, even if you did bust a stitch. (***sorry 'bout that, what a bummer!***) take it easy, girl, and beware the jokes. next time you see one headed your way, grab your belly-binder and hold on!

now that you're on antibiotics, the last thing you want is trouble from gassy foods. (you'd hate to bust another stitch from bloating, LOL!! try explaining that to friends!) get yourself on a probiotic, to help with digestion. yes, yogurt might have them, but too much dairy might be tough right now. you can find them as pills at any drugstore, typically, or in the vitamin/supplement aisle at the grocery store or walmart. L. acidophilus is what you're looking for, and trust me, it's helped immensely with me this week, since i started the week out (six days post-op) with the most horrid gas pains i ever had in my life. i take it 2xdaily, and plan to finish the entire bottle. that's my tip for you -- find a way to replenish the good bacteria in your gut! (oh, and check the label for storage instructions, whether on the shelf or needing the fridge.)

happy healing, i do hope things feel better soon and your incision repairs quickly!! hang in there!

BTW, i slept in a recliner for the first several nights too. one morning, i'd just managed to get myself righted up, and the cat suddenly jumped from the arm of the chair to the top, tipping me straight back again!!! ouch!!

Re: Scar having problem healing

Not with my hysterectomy but with the hernia repair surgery, which utilized the same vertical incision used for my hysterectomy...

I was a few days post-op, sitting (nay, slouching) on the sofa when I got up and suddenly felt a wet spot on the front of my shorts. Took a look and uh oh... the surgical glue sealing my incision had pulled apart at the bottom and was draining. I called the doctor's office and got a standby appointment that afternoon. The surgeon prescribed an antibiotic cream and instructions to keep it covered with my next followup a week later.

At the followup, Doc seemed concerned that the sore wasn't healing fast. He asked what I was doing and I told him swabbing the opening with the little towellettes I got when discharged from the hospital (I had a drain as well that I had to take care of and had been given the towellettes and bandaging) and using the cream he prescribed. My next followup was set for a week later and by that time... a good two weeks after the tear happened... it finally started healing properly.

Re: Scar having problem healing

Thankx for the insight. Yes maam, I am on probiotics in the morning with a side of acidophilous! Love my vitamins. I cannot live without them, actually quite obsessive. But, with the antibiotics, if I don't take my probiotics, hello yeast infection and this would not be the time for on! Not that there is a good time for one My doc also told me that I can heal my staple scars, not my main scar with st. johns wort oil. Well, at least I will have a very happy scar Thanx again ladies for the advice, extremely appreciated.
