Hysterectomy and tummy tuck

Hi everyone,

I just joined this board the other day; I'm having a TAH on July 30th because of lots of fibroids, and very heavy bleeding (i.e., hemmoraging that put me in the ER two weeks ago, at which time the fibroids were diagnosed via ultrasound). I've enjoyed reading everyone's posts and gleaning information to help me along this journey.

I seem to have read several posts that indicated that some people are getting an abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) at the same time as their hysterectomies. My question is: does your GYN surgeon do this, or is there a separate plastic surgeon that comes in? What are the logistics of arranging to have this done? I could really use this; I has gastric bypass surgery about 2.5 years ago and lost quite a bit of weight, and I'd love to be able to get the TT.

Thanks!
Vicki

Hysterectomy and tummy tuck

Vicki,
I had the TAH/BSO and TT on 6/4. It is done by a Plastic Surgeon. The PS open, the GYN removes your guts, and the PS finishes and closes. Your main Dr. would still be your GYN, but both dr. would see you in the hospital and follow up. If you already have your surgery date, you may want to call a PS immediately and see if they could even schedule it at that time. Otherwise you either have to reschedule your hyst or go without. It was worth it to me to do both at once. But it's also an additional $$$$ and not covered by insurance.

Email me directly and I'll answer ANY questions.

Just as Texas Chick Said

It is running me $5000 for just the PS, not counting the portion of the hospital stay. I don't know how much that will run, but it will be worth my self esteem to have real belly button again.

I would interview several doctors until you find one you are comfortable with. PS is on a cash basis so they really bendover backwards to please you. Just do your research. Not sure how they do it in your state, but you don't have to be seperately certified in Texas to do PS, so you will wnat to check and be sure that they are assocaited on the national level with the PS association. Just be sure to do your research.

Good luck with your decision.
