travel opinions?
Before surgury, DH & I were planning a train (with sleeper car) trip to NYC this feb. over "spring break". (First time ever for me.) It would involve a 16 hour train ride, lots of walking once there. This would be about 10 weeks post op. Our other option would be to postpone this until May when my semester is done, i am more healed, and there is no (or less) snow. I am really looking forward to some time with husband and no kids, and know I'll be ready for the break by Feb, but wonder if I'd enjoy it more in May. What do you ladies who have progressed further think??

Peg
DH and I went on a cruise about 8 weeks post-op. That is alot of walking both on the ship and in ports. I still did tire very easily and had to take numerous rests.
But, you would have an additional 2 weeks beyond what I did. It's really hard to say. If it were me, I would probably wait, now that I know what I know. Alot depends on your overall physical condition (I am and was so out of shape).
I hope you reach a decision you are comfortable with.....regardless of when you go, have a great time!

travel opinions?
I am planninng to go see the pyramids in April, but one thing I did not realise - my travel company will not insure me for long haul flights/hols until I am 12 weeks post op. which funnily enough is tomorrow - so going to ask them again tomorrow. I have not done any long car journies yet as I am still quite uncomfortable, and really tire easily too. Best to listen to your body, we all seem to be different.

travel opinions?
I am going to Vegas next week and can't wait. My friend is worried that I will get too tired because of all the walking but I think I will be fine. If you think you will be uncomfortable walking for a long time try to plan "rest stops" so you can rest. I am making mine in the casinos lol.....hopefully I dont need to many!!!!!!!!!
I've never ridden a train before but if you are sleeping for some of it, you should be fine especially if its a private sleeper...bring some comfy pants and veg on the way up!

I would say if you can wait then wait! The extra time waiting would give more time to heal and that waiting will be worth it, as I think the quality of the trip would be more enjoyable with just you and DH then if you are not fully healed and needing to rest and possible be hurting and swollen at the end of the day. JMHO though! Take care!

Thanks all, for your experiences. I am still in the process of researching pricing, etc., but definielty leaning toward waiting. I just want to somehow ensure it will happen, not just be put off indefinitley, because I could really use something spirit lifting to look forward to.

Ok, I'm going to be the odd one out here, but I say go ahead and go Spring Break. I'm in my 9th week and think I could handle it. If you told me you were on a guided tour, with time limits per pit stop, I'd scream no. But, it sounds like it's just the two of you, and there are lots of places to plant yourself in the city as you sight see. I'd say go, take in a show or two, a ferry tour, sit in restaurants, take cabs. Do as much per hour as your body mandates. It might do you good to get the heck out of dodge for a while. (smile)

travel opinions?
Hi ---i went to Florida with my girlfriends three weeks post -op. We drove from St. Louis and all the Dr asked is that we stop every hour and get out to walk around to prevent blood clots. I also could NOT go in the ocean. Yes, I was tired and did rest a lot but it was a very relaxing vacation and much needed mental health vacation after endometrial cancer diagnosis--I say
GO FO IT!!!!

I went to NYC with my daughters a few years ago. It was a wonderful trip. However, it did involve ALOT of walking. I got exhausted and I was in good physical shape. We did alot of sightseeing as we did not know when we would get back to New York and wanted to see everything we could. Even taking cabs will be hard on you as you have to get in and out quickly. I would say wait the extra time if you can to insure your trip will be a great one.
