1 Day Post Op

I finally got it over with! Had my TVH with A&P repairs and bladder sling yesterday. Got to the hospital about 7:15, got taken in around 8, got blood drawn and IV put in, talked to surgeon and anesthesiologist and nurse anesthetist. Got some versed and taken back to OR around 10:15. I got a spinal with sedation and remember them numbing my back and it hurt a little but I didn't feel the spinal at all. Then they put something in my IV to make me fall asleep and it burned like crazy! I said OUCH that burns and then I was out! Woke up in the OR and they were taking me to recovery. This is where it got really bad. I've been on painkillers for a good 6 months. They knew what medications I was taking, yet didn't think about me having a tolerance to regular pain meds because of it. So my 1 to 2 hours in recovery turned into 6 hours in recovery! I was in and out of it. I don't remember much, but my family was told I was either screaming in pain or not breathing! I do remember being asleep and then having a nurse yelling "Breathe Dana" at me. So finally I got sent to my room and got to see my DH and mom and step-dad. Got up and walked 2 or 3 times last night. It was the only thing that felt good. I have to lay on my side or walk. Got the vaginal packing taken out last night and made DH watch because I wanted him to see how much they put in there. He was in awe! Begged them to take my catheter out and the put 200 cc's in it first, then took it out to let me pee. I couldn't go. I talked them into letting me try walking again and then going. Walked again and still couldn't go, so laid back in the bed and cried while she put the catheter back in. Once they decided to put me on the same pain meds I've been taking at home, the pain got under control. I am in no way pain free, but it is tolerable now. Left the hospital at 4:30 this afternoon for a bumpy 2 hour drive home. Had my huge body pillow that wraps around me, wrapped around me with the seat reclined and had to stop once to empty the catheter bag. Yes, have to go back on Monday and try it again. Wouldn't be so big of a deal if it weren't 2 hours away! I'm sure I probably forgot a lot of details, but I haven't slept much in forever it seems! Going to try getting in bed and finding a comfortable position. Will update again soon. I hope everyone is doing well.!

Wow you have had an ordeal! I hope that your body co-operates soon and that you can get rid of the catheter. I am sending healing thoughts your way.

Re: 1 Day Post Op

Hi,
I am sorry you had such a tough time at the hospital. Hopefully now that you are home you will start to feel a little more comfortable and can get that cath out soon. I hate those things!!
I'll be thinking of you.
