Yeast infection before hysterectomy on Feb 8. What to take?

If been scared regarding my upcoming surgery wasn't enough, I suspect I have a yeast infection and I was told no medications prior to surgery. What can I do now? Are over the counter suppositories OK? I feel embarrassed and uncomfortable around my BF... Urggggg
Help please? Anyone out there with the same problem or something similar?

Re: Yeast infection before surgery on Feb8. What to take?

I would stay away from OTC product unless you doctor tells you it is ok.
Please call your doctor, he might be able to prescribe something not interfering with the surgery

Re: Yeast infection before surgery on Feb8. What to take?

Definitely see your doctor, I had something similar to that before my surgery, though in my case it was bacterial and thrush. I got put on antibiotics and anti-fungal cream, and let the surgeon know what I was on as soon as I knew. I stopped the anti fungal cream one day before I was meant to as I didn't want any foreign substances left in my vagina; from memory that was 2 full days before surgery and it worked out well. The antibiotics I was 1 pill away from finishing, let the surgeon and anaethetist know and they added the final in liquid form to my lure while I was out to ensure I finished the course. You'll probably find it's fairly common to have these issues between the stress of upcoming surgery, the tendency (in my case) to eat too much sugar and whatever health issues have led you to the point of needing surgery.

Hi lizwhit1108 -

Definitely call your doctor ASAP and let them know what is going on. Do not take any OTC meds, vitamins, herbs, or use anything without their permission. This is very important. They will probably want to see you, and may prescribe something for you.

Re: Yeast infection before surgery on Feb8. What to take?

I had a yeast infection couldn't shake the entire month before surgery. Did a couple of rounds of the OTC internal treatments. Finally called doc when I was a few days out - they had me take a prescription single pill treatment ( this was about 4 days before surgery) and even offered to postpone the surgery if I was feeling too miserable. By that point I was so anxious about surgery that I just wanted to get it over with and said go ahead. I don't know what happened but from the moment I woke up from the procedure my yeast symptoms were gone - either the medication did it's job or the trauma of the surgery shook up whatever was going on but that was the end of it. I wish the same for you!

Talk with your doctor. Mine has placed me on Flagyl as a pre-surgery preventive for any infection in that area. So some will allow medications. (Not giving medical advice) but I am a pharmacist and a lot of the times why you stop your medications is because they don't want you to be taking something that can thin your blood so that is why they tell people to stop their medications. So through my ramblings what I am trying to say is definitely talk with your doctor mostly likely he will give you something to help you so you can have the surgery.

I would call your surgeon ASAP to see if there is anything he or she can prescribe.

You don't want your surgery cancelled because of this infection.

It's better to be safe than sorry.

Yeast infections are the worst!!! 👹

Good luck! 🍀
