6.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Bright red gush of blood

Ok, I'm 37 days post op, so 6.5 wks, and I have been having increased spotting and cramping this last two wks. Called doc and he said anything other than light spotting is a problem. Just one hour ago had bright red gush of blood. Am waiting in ER.
Help.

Re: Bright red gush of blood

So sorry to hear that you are in the ER! I had a bright red gush of blood on day 5 after my hysterectomy. It freaked me out completely! Apparently the stitch of the vaginal cuff came out, though I'm assuming it was healed because it only happened that once though I'm only at 3 weeks today. Hopefully they'll find out the cause quick!

Lydia, I think you made the right choice by going to ER. Take care of yourself and hoping you have a good recovery.

Re: Bright red gush of blood

You did the right thing, and you're in the right place. It may be a hematoma draining or some sort of infection. Try to be calm, and let us know how you are doing.

Re: 6.5 weeks post hysterectomy: Bright red gush of blood

Well, back from the ER with no answers really.... They did internal, which wasn't too comfortable. I guess he couldn't see the cuff, as the skin of the vagina can hang down?he did see clots however.... So I have to go back to the ER tomorrow for a pelvic ultrasound to make sure I'm not bleeding internally. Not sure what they will do if U/S is normal. Bleeding has eased though. Thanks ladies, will keep you posted.

Did they use a speculum? If not then it would make sense that they couldn't see the cuff. There must something not healed if that much blood came out and they could see clots. I hope you get answers tomorrow! Let us know how it goes. We do care.

Yes they did use speculum. I must have a really long vagina lol! Thanks for responding. Bleeding is less this morning. Appt. in a couple of hours. I'll keep posted.
