Opinion on Cervix
Hello to Everyone. Thankyou for all your wonderful responses yesterday. They made me feel better just reading them. My DH and I went to the female OB/GYN this morning for a 4th opinion. She is in agreement about the surgery at least for the uterus and the left ovary. She stated the right ovary would have to be looked at and then it would be my decision should it look okay if I wanted it removed or not. I told her that I have been having severe pain with that ovary, including cyst, so my thought is remove them both, then I will deal with medication and hormones, but that I don't want to go through this only to have to go in again to have it taken out because I am still in pain. She did recommend that I keep my cervix though. Opinions please!
Thank you for being there for me.
Kathy

Opinion on Cervix
Hi Kathy,
That's a tough decision, isn't it? I went through the same thing. After I had an ovarian cyst burst, though, I decided to have the doc take both ovaries. I had HPV test which came back negative, so I kept my cervix. Doc said that studies are showing that keeping the cervix can help hold things in place better.
I'm only 3 weeks post op, using Vivelle-dot and feeling great so far. It's still early days, but I have great hopes that I'll continue to feel better and better.
Can she do a hormone level check on you? This might make the post op hormone issue easier for you. There was a post on that somewhere on the board yesterday.
Good luck to you

I had mine taken along with everything else. I am a DES daughter and have in the past, had atypical paps..it just wasn't worth the risk for me.

If you can, keep your cervix. My gyn/onc said that to me, and I managed to keep mine. What Diadema said is true : "The cervix can help to hold things in place better". That's basically what my gyn/onc said.

Having an LSH and keeping mine...Ovaries will go though and I will start the vivelle dot immediately thereafter. If you were to keep an ovary, make sure that you talk to your doctor about cauterizing the cervical canal completely. A few women have had tissue left and ended up with mini periods. My doctor as never had this happen because he cauterizes the canal, however, he had read about it.
