Considering LSH
I was 29 when I had this surgery (total laproscopic) done and I can honestly say I wish they would've done it before the two D&C's and the ablation, which by the way all failed. I had very little pain. They almost sent me home the day I had it done. DD went as far to say they just didn't know what to do with me. I took no pain pills after that first night. I was up to taking a Vicadon everyday because of the pain. Endometriosis was terrible. I can't remember the last time I felt this good. It's been a long hard fight for me and being sent into instant menopause was just my prayers being answered.
I am no longer in pain and I can live life how I want to not how my uterus wants to. Good luck and I hope you find the solution thats right for you.

I guess I am just tired of this. The pain is much more controllable since the ablation also.
I have a uterus the size of a 4 month pregnancy. I am only 5-2 and short waisted so I tired of the big tummy too.
I'd like to hear from some of you who have had the LSH and ask what the pain is REALLY like and what the down time REALLY is.
I was fed a bill of goods about another operation once and want to know the truth about what I am facing.
The surgery isn't as urgent as it was but I am ptetty tired of the disruption to my life.
I just turned 49 so could still mesntruate for years yet.
Thanks for your input.

Hi Lisa-
I had a LSH and RSO on Jan. 25, 2007 and can honestly say there was NO real pain from the surgery. The only pain I felt was the first two days when the gas (used to expand the surgical area for the surgeon and had risen to my shoulders) still had not dissipated. After it was gone, there was no pain. I wondered if the surgeon had actually taken anything out! I had no stitches, only glue outside on the 4 tiny incisions and glue and cauterization on the inside. I had a grapefruit-sized calcified fibroid which was broken up and removed through my belly button, along with the uterus and the right ovary and tube. I kept the other ovary so as not to go into menopause right away. I am 49, but don't think I am near menopause yet, so I wanted to put off the hot flashes as long as possible. Found out I had had adeno at my 2 week check up, although I never had any symptoms of it.
I read all these e-mails from ladies who had the TAH and I feel bad knowing I never went through ANY of what they are describing. Lisa, if it is possible for you to had a LSH, do it! I was back at work in two weeks, although I could have probably gone back sooner than that. I didn't want to miss 6 weeks of work and I didn't want to be dependent on others for any amount of time. My wonderful fiance took great care of me and wouldn't let me do anything for at least 1 1/2 weeks, but it was great to know that I could take care of myself if I needed to.
Good luck with your choice. I hope you feel better soon.

Kathleen, I sure did relate to your story and your feelings about the LSH brought much comfort. Thank you.
We are very fortunate today to have such a wonderful option of the LSH.
I am so grateful for this group and you sisters who take the time to share your experiences with those of us making such important decisions in our lives.

Considering LSH
Hi,
I wanted to let you know that I had an LSH on Jan 3, 07 and the pain was not very bad. I switched to Ibuprofen the day after surgery and did not even take that on a regular basis. Sleeping was uncomfortable for about 1 1/2 weeks, but I was back to running 4 miles 3 weeks after surgery. This was almost a no-brainer for me because I am 43 with a 24 year old and an 11 year old and I was tired of bleeding for 2 months at a time. Before I had an ablation in 2003, I was bleeding heavily for 2-3 weeks at a time from fibroids and I wasn't going back there again. Life's too short. At eight weeks I was able to get reaquainted with the hubby and everything still works great even without the cervix!!
Good luck to you!

I'm confused
Harrisonq,
Usually when you have a LSH(Laparoscopic Supracervical Hysterectomy) the cervix is left in. Did you have yours removed? I am confused...
I am so glad to hear that you had such a wonderful recovery.

Sorry about that Evonne, I was in a hurry and forgot to change the acronym(sp). My bad. I did have my cervix removed but had the hysterectomy laparoscopically done and kept my ovaries. Shoot... I didn't mean to spread misinformation I was just so pleased with my outcome that I wanted to encourage anybody considering it but unsure of the recovery/pain part of it. Thanks for catching my mistake.

Considering LSH
Lisa,
I had an LSH in August of last year and my pain was minimal to practically non-existent. I was up and walking around just fine (darn slow, but just fine!) a few hours after my surgery. My doc came in for the post op checks and was happy to see me pain free. She did tell me to take things to stay ahead of the pain that was coming (they put some pain meds inside while I was on the table, sort of like an abesol (that tooth stuff, I know I'm saying it wrong)) and she said when that wore off I'd feel it. I would say the worst my surgery site pain ever got to was a 1 on the 1 to 10 scale, more of an awareness that something was there, if that makes sense.
I too didn't 'have' to have the surgery. I chose to because every single female on my mom's side has gone down a long, painful road that ended in a hyst, so when I had the first signs I said 'thanks, but no thanks, let's stop this now!' I fretted and worried that I was overreacting, how did I know this would happen, blah blah blah but stuck to my guns because I only wanted one surgery. I felt that way since 'all' I had was the polyp and fibriods, I didn't have the crushing pain or 29 days a month of bleeding etc. I realized about December (so four months out) that I was feeling better than I had in years and I think its because the issues were more of a drain on me than I realized. I have more energy now, I sleep better, I don't get tired as easily, etc. I just had my annual with the doctor who did the surgery and told her the concerns I had before the surgery and how now I realized the impact the issues were having on me now that they were gone.
Best of luck in your journey, wherever it leads!
Jamie
