Pre-op appt too close to surgery date?

The nurse at my doc's office called and my surgery is scheduled for Sept 15 at 12:30. Then she scheduled my pre-op appointment to that Monday, the 13th, at 4. The doc mentioned 2 days of bowel prep and one day of not eating, isn't this appointment too close to surgery time? When I mentioned it she said she ould check with the doc, but I havn't heard anything back. I will call but I am wondering how I get around her. Anyway, that's it, whatcha think?

I had my LAVH on June 16th and pre-op on the 14th. I had to do the bowel prep that Tuesday night(enema) and couldn't eat anything after midnight. But,of course,all Drs have different ways. Good Luck!

That's pretty similar to mine, except that I only had one day of bowl prep, which was the night before. And one day of not eating prior to the surgery. I guess different doctors have different procedures, but your prep does not seem unusual to me.

My pre op appointment for my hysterectomy was the day before my surgery. I did not have to do a bowel prep but had already had an appointment with the nurse regarding any questions and an appointment to watch videos regarding the surgery so I knew before that day that no prep was needed.

For my last GYN surgery, my pre op was again the day before. However, information about the bowel prep was sent to me before that appointment as I had to start the liquid diet and prep before my appointment. The office called me with information ahead of time as well.

If you don't hear anything in a few days, go ahead and give your doctor's office a call again. I am guessing your two days of prep are a liquid diet for Monday and Tuesday and the no eating day is Wednesday, the actual day of your surgery. Generally, any bowel prep solutions/pills/etc. would be started in the evening of the first day when or morning of the second when there is a two day prep--but that is not a set in stone rule for everyone by any means!

You have time to get your questions answered so try not to panic but be persistent!

My pre-op was on July 9th and my TAH on July 14th with no bowel prep ordered. I didn't think it was to close. My doctor answered all of my and husbands last minute questions and concerns. Wish you all the best. Ask to speak with office manager to go around nurse if you think she is hindering your open dialog.
