Early recovery concerns

Hello Ladies! I had my TVH on January 13th @ 7:00 a.m. I am still in pain and actually need a refill on my meds....urgg.
I didn't have such a great experience. The doctor told my hubby and mother that my uterus and bladder had adhered together. He shortened my tubes (which he never said why) and he wasn't very caring about my pain. He sent me straight to the floor with Lortab 7.5 from recovery. I don't know if I just have a high tolerance to pain meds but, I was in PAIN! Finally, he wrote me something a little stronger. Thank GOD!
When I asked him how things went during surgery he just said "Fine." He didn't tell me about the adhesions and I was hoping just to know what was going on in my world.
Now I am running out of my medicine. I tried taking just the 1 every 6 hours for pain with the advil, but it didn't help. I have to call in the morning but I am scared.... I don't want pain pills really just to be comfortable. Is it just me here?? Please be honest.
Also, I have made pooh and am glad but now I have a horrible hemorrhoid! I was hoping to get back to school on Tuesday. I don't think that will happen now. I was hoping that my belly would go down after going to the bathroom. Awwww....
Oh my face is dry now. I still have my ovaries. Is this something I can expect from here on out? I hope so. I have battled with acne and SUPER OILY skin most of my life. Any responces would be GREATLY APPRECIATED! Speedy recovery to all the other hystersisters this week. It's official now!

God Bless you all!

Early recovery concerns

I am so sorry you are still in pain. I rotated between the pain killers and ibuprofen. That seemed to help me. Like you, I was also in ALOT of pain after surgery. I was hooked up to the morphine but also needed Toradol.

You are still really early on in your recovery and I think the pain is normal. Dont be afraid to ask for more pain meds.

I hope you get some relief soon! And remember to take it easy.

Early recovery concerns

Kimmay, my situation was a little different than yours. I was off pain meds by week 2. But I had the davinci hysterectomy and the recovery is shorter. Ive also heard that Vaginal hystectomy recoveries go smoother than abdominal. But you should not feel scared to let your Dr know that you are still in pain maybe he should try something different. I hope that you will be up and about in the next few days. Good luck to you and try not to over do sweety

Early recovery concerns

Hi Kimmay,
I can't answer about the acne as I have had dry skin my whole life (which means I have to battle wrinkles sooner than you do!), but I can give you my experience with the pain pills.
I had TVH, cystolele & rectocele repair, and mid-urethral sling. Which means that there was a lot more going on than just taking out the uterus. My doctor explained that with all that cutting on the inside, the pain will be more and last longer. I took oxycodone for 2 weeks after coming home - I was in the hospital for 4 days because I lost a lot of blood during the surgery and my blood pressure simply refused to go back up again. Because of the blood pressure issue, they couldn't give me the morphine pump and put me on percoset. The pain the first couple of days was intense. I can say now that after 4 weeks, I still need advil and tylenol. I told someone it felt like a golfer took a golf swing and instead of hitting the ball, he hit me between my legs! That's pretty harsh, but that's what it felt like the first couple of weeks. I was worried about it too, but my doc said to watch for fever and sharp, shooting pains that don't go away. Things have definitely gotten better, but it has taken a while and I've been pretty frustrated. However, one of the sisters on here said, "You only get one chance to have a good recovery", so I decided to really take it one day at a time.
I wish you the best, and hope that my experience will ease your mind somewhat, but don't be afraid to be an advocate for yourself - tell that doctor what you need and keep telling him til he listens!
Keep us posted!

Kimmay - I too agree that it is too soon to return to school - they recommend up to six weeks to recover - I too had lots of complications after surgery and lost a lot of blood during and staying in hospital from Mon-Sat. If you need more pain meds please get them as otherwise you may hinder your recovery from the tension from being in pain (not a doc here but talking from my experiences) Much harder to heal when things are tense.

I am still on pain meds and anti-inflams as well as other stuff but I still have several issues.

Take care and good luck with your recovery - hugs from one sister to another.

Early recovery concerns

Kimmay,
I had a TVH and the first two weeks I was in a lot pain. I would take one viocodin and one Tylenol pill at the same time every four hours. I continued to have pain through week 6, but just took Tylenol. I still occasionally have pain at night. I did not return to work until 6 weeks post-op and went back part time. Last week was my first full week and I came home exhausted everyday. Please listen to your body and do not push it. As I have heard, so many times, on this site, you only get one chance to recover. Take care of yourself.
