Pelvic done today, questions....

Hi. I'm new here. I've been having pelvic pain for over a yr now. It is in left ovary area, radiates to lower back and down my leg. I've also been having hellish periods for the past yr. Anyway, went to doc today for the pelvic pain and went ahead and had my annual done as it was about time to anyway. She didn't feel anything abnormal and I'm going for a transvag. U/S next week. She told me she really has no concerns and if there was something abnormal there she would have felt it because I'm slender. My question is: Is it possible to have something going on and it not be detected in the pelvic exam? If there is something, is it likely to show in the u/s? I'm just tired of feeling bad and I really don't think it's all in my head. I generally have a high pain threshold.
I should also note that I've had cervical dysplasia about 5yrs ago and had LEEP done. I've also had enlarged lymph nodes and had a transax. open biopsy done about 4 yrs go.

TIA
Stephanie

Pelvic done today, questions....

Stephanie - My doctor swore that my ovaries were large and my uterus was normal size through an internal exam. Had my surgery last week and they found that my ovaries were diseased but not enlarged and my uterus was very enlarged. Turns out I had adenomyosis along with endomitriosis- I knew something was going on and feared cancer so was quite relieved to find out it could all be removed.
Remember that DR's run a PRACTICE! They don't always know what they are dealing with. I had several internal ultrasounds and nothing showed on the uterus. Even had a uterine biopsy and it came back normal tissues. Not until my DR was inside doing the actual surgery did she find out how serious things really were.

Hang in there and ask alot of questions. It took me over a year to come to the decision about my TAH/BSO. We tried many medical remedies and other options. At two weeks post-op I am 100% sure I made the right decision - I had done ALOT of homework on the surgery, recovery, side affects and surgical possibilities. This site has been amazing with most of that but don't be afraid to look out on the web. Just remember to take things in perspective. Only you and your DR can decide what is right for your body. Good luck with everything!

P.S. I too had the back and leg pain and was pleasently surprised when it all went away with surgery ( my uterus was sitting on the nerves that run to those areas)! The relief was instantaneous!

Pelvic done today, questions....

I've had ovarian cysts before that were causing lots of pain that could not be felt in a pelvic. You have to think about what they're doing -- feeling for things and organs through layers of tissue and skin, it's not an exact science. Best thing is to have ultrasound, which you are scheduled for. I would be comforted that the doctor didn't feel anything herself, but listened to your concerns enough to go ahead and get the ultrasound. Good Luck!

Thank ya'll so much for the replies! It's comforting to know there are others like me or have been in the same boat. Gives me some validation to my feelings. We'll see what happens at the U/S.
