2 weeks into hysterectomy recovery and suddenly having incontinence.
I am 2 weeks into post op after a full vaginal Divinci robotic hysterectomy. No real recovery issues until yesterday when I started to have some bladder incontenance. Never had it pre op and it's scaring me. Is this a possible temporary side effect or am I going to have this as a permanent problem. The doctor's office says to wait until I see them in a week, but I am nervous and worry about having this problem when I go back to work or having to have further surgery to correct it.
Can someone tell me how common this is?:

Re: 2 weeks into hysterectomy recovery and suddenly having incontinence.
Were you very specific about what was happening when you talked to them about the incontinence? Maybe they thought it sounded minor. I remember having some trouble after I urinated, that I would have to wait a few minutes to wipe because a little bit would "dribble" out after I thought I was done, but it wasn't really true incontinence and it went away after a few weeks. If it's worrying you, it might be worth calling them back. Be specific-like, if you are wetting through a whole maxi-pad every hour, or wetting through your clothes, or whatever.
I hope it gets better for you!

Re: 2 weeks into hysterectomy recovery and suddenly having incontinence.
Thank you so much for your input. I will have to discuss this on Tuesday with my doctor at my post op appointment. The bladder incontenance that start 3 days ago is still with me. More of a dribble when I move around and have no advance warning. never had any problem with this before my operation, so think my pelvic floor was weakened by the operation and everything settling lower. Hope he can help me out, as I don't want to have to wear pads for the rest of my life!

Re: 2 weeks into hysterectomy recovery and suddenly having incontinence.
Almost 3 was post op now. See my doctor tomorrow for post op check since he's been on vacation. Still have an incontenance problem that started the end of week 2 post op. Appears to be stress incontenance since I dribble out urine when I am up and walking about. Very upsetting since I never had any trouble with incontenance before my hysterectomy. I am having to wear pads and getting depressed over feeling the dribbling. Everything I've read says this is not normal after a hysterectomy and I dread having to have additional surgery. Can't see myself returning to work and having to worry about leaking beyond the pad and onto my clothes.
