Getting anxious and excited!
My surgery is almost one week away and I am getting anxious but very excited. I have probably been in more pain the past two weeks up to now than I have experienced in the last 3 years. I'm taking pain killers but they space me out so bad that I have to make sure my husband or family is around to take care of my 3 yr old. I am just posting to say that I am ready to live without pain and get back to being me again!
It's been so helpful reading all your posts on this site. I just want to thank you all for the support you didn't even know you were giving

Re: Getting anxious and excited!
Good Luck!! Mine is 2 days after you. I am feeling exhausted, as I am trying to get everything in the house in order. Which is funny, cuz it is just my daily chores, but I seem to be "nesting" lol & everything has to be perfect. Weird eh?
I actually have felt pretty good since Aunt Flo left town on 9/9/09. I am getting very excited to evict her forever!

Re: Getting anxious and excited!
All my best wishes for a successful surgery and easy recovery.
I remember that last week before surgery (gee, it was five years ago! ) and it was a very surreal time in many ways. Even though I was very active here at Hyster Sisters, I still felt like I was the only woman who had ever had this surgery!
Take some time to get your recovery area ready. I made up our couch in the living room like a bed, and I made sure I had plenty of my favorite foods, including juices and teas, available. I went out and bought a few loose-fitting sundresses to wear so that dressing (and dealing with my bandages during the day) would be as uncomplicated as possible.
As for your 3-year-old.... my DS was also 3 when I had my surgery. I was concerned about caring for him, as I knew I wouldn't be able to lift him or do much for a while. DH and DD (who was 16 at the time) took care of bathing, getting him up in the morning and ready for bed, etc. I explained to him that I'd be able to snuggle and watch movies, but that was about it for a while. My DH installed a DVD player for the TV in my "recovery room" so I'd have easy access to movies, and I bought a couple of new movies for DS and I to watch, along with a "special" bigger toy that he could have in my recovery area. He got that new toy when I got home from the hospital, so it was almost like another birthday for him! That way, we could still connect, but I didn't have to do any of the "heavy lifting" (so to speak) as far as caring for him.
Hope this helps.

Re: Getting anxious and excited!
Sound advice so far. I was lucky my DD was 11 when I had my hyst. My DH set up my recovery area (our room) with a computer at my fingertips and tv & movies as well. Best wishes to summee & bluntcate for an easy recovery. Keep us updated of your progress.
Hugs!

Re: Getting anxious and excited!
Our surgery is the same day and I'm getting nervous/excited too. I've been trying to get everything done before this week so I could just do the minimal stuff and try to mentally get ready for next week. Of course I still have a to-do list that's way too long so I'm going to have a busy week this week after all. I will hopefully be going home next Tuesday and will be alone (except my dog) after Wednesday so I have been trying to figure out how to handle things by myself after surgery. I have learned so much from this website and feel such support here even tho I haven't met any of you. I plan to think about all the other ladies having surgery next Monday when I go into pre-op. It's my way of reminding myself that I am not alone and that even after Wednesday, there will be friends around to "listen" to me and support me here on this website.
Good luck next Monday. We're in this together!
