Surgery 11/27 followed by shots

Okay so I'm ok with surgery and bowel prep. What's freaking me out is the 10 days of shots to prevent blood clots! Needles don't bother me but in the abdomen ... eek!!
Praying for fast recoveries for all of us!

Re: Surgery 11/27 followed by shots

Hi -

Why ten days of shots? : (

They gave shots for me while I was in the hospital (one overnight) and thankful I didn't have to do them at home.

Sorry you have to go through this.

Good luck to all of you! 7 days is just as bad as 10 argh! We'll survive it I guess!

25 hours from now I'll be in surgery. Can't wait to get it over with!

....wait...why and how? Do you give yourself these shots at home? Are 7-10days of shots typical or do you ladies have an underlying issue that makes this necessary. I don't do shots well....which seems incredibly funny since I'm having a TAH. Talk of shots stopped me in my tracks.

Re: Surgery 11/27 followed by shots

Now, this is a post I can relate to! But I'll make you feel better, I am 12 days post-op. Because I had a prior DVT (from taking the pill to try and help with the heavy crazy periods) I have to do the shots for 30 days! Ugh. That is just cruel and unusual punishment in an already sore tummy! But, hey, considering some of the complications others have experienced, I'm just happy to be feeling good and pain free. 11 shots down and 19 to go. I don't know about you, but they do sting. I went on youtube to look for tips and so far icing the spot before and/or after and injecting the medicine very, very slowly seem to be helping and causing less bruising as well.

OMG 30! I feel for you. Not sure why my surgeon chose 10 but I will survive it. Figure it's cause I'm a big girl and cause its a radical hysterectomy. It's better than getting blood clots!

JulM, I pray that you have a successfiul surgery and an even more successful recovery. May the shots that you are required to take serve its purpose with the least amount of discomfort
