When can I sleep on my stomach after hysterectomy surgery?

I'm just wondering how soon I can sleep on my stomach. I'm doing fine on my back and sides but I know eventually I'll want to roll on my stomach. I'm sure its too soon now (7 days post) so I won't try it just yet.

Re: When can I sleep on my stomach after hysterectomy surgery?

Hi J.C.
I had TAH and I'm 7 wks tmrw post op. I have yet to completely sleep on my stomach. I forgot to ask my dr yesterday. My sleeping habits have improved greatly and the tenderness and soreness are almost gone. I did wake up one morning and was on maybe 1/2 of my stomach, no problem. That was a couple weeks ago. Call your dr to see if it's ok for you to.

When I do drink a sleepy time tea, it's no telling how I'll be sleeping. Good luck and blessings with your recovery.

Re: When can I sleep on my stomach after hysterectomy surgery?

I started off on my back for a couple of weeks, then on my side for about 3 weeks, then one morning I woke up on my tummy and my body had decided for me,although for a while it felt a bit stretched in the mornings.

Re: When can I sleep on my stomach after hysterectomy surgery?

Hi jcdorsey- I had my surgery on the 7th of March, just a few days before you. I got home on the 8th and slept on my side and stomach that evening. My doctor said if I am comfortable, then it is fine. I use a pillow when I am on my side just to help lean on, but on my stomach I am just flat... it feels so much better than trying to sleep on my back. Happy Healing and Hugs Sisters!! xo
