Hysterectomy June 24--concerned about urine output

Hello!
My surgery was 2 days ago. I had an ablation done 4 yrs ago and have had massive pain since that time. I was diagnosed with adenomyosis & post ablation syndrome (something like that!). Following surgery, I was hospitalized overnight. The surgeon removed my uterus, fallopian tubes (to remove the Essure coils), cervix, and my left ovary (which was a surprise). He said he couldn't believe the amount of scar tissue/endometriosis. My left ovary had a chocolate cyst, which is why he removed it. He also said my uterus (which had been ablated 4 yrs ago) was too large to have been ablated properly. My uterus was tilting my rectum also. Now for my big question-when I have the urge to pee (not a strong urge--just a different urge) it's like I push and some urine comes out. Then I sit and push again, more trickles out, and it goes on like this. The catheter was removed before I was in recovery. The dr said I may not be getting all urine out and may need a catheter. I peed in a hat before I left, the nurse said it was a good amount (although the dr said she wasn't concerned about output only what isn't coming out). The nurse then did a Doppler and said it appeared I had retained about 100 milligrams (I think that was the measurement?) and that was fairly normal. Today though, I feel like I still don't have the "full control" of peeing. Is this normal?

Also, having one ovary-will I have any issues with early menopause now?

Thanks!

Hi, there. My DaVinci hysterectomy was June 18, and I must say that the urge to pee and peeling itself still feels different than before surgery. Sometimes there is a strong stream. Other times not so much. As your tummy allows, I found holding my tummy a bit and leaning forward helped empty more if I suspected there was more to empty. I sometimes worried I might have leakage issues since the sensations feels so different, but Iam happy to report this has not been the case for me. In my case, gas pains and lack of bm became my primary concern a few days out. In the end, stool softener twice a day didn't do the trick, so I took a dose of MoM Sat night, and Sunday morning I finally had success. .. and relief from much discomfort. Best wishes to you as your body begins the healing process! I was able to keep both ovaries, so I will let others share about their experiences with one.

Re: Hysterectomy June 24--concerned about urine output

I had the pee issue thing too. Sort of like my bladder felt numb-like I thought I was finished, and I would push a little bit more and some more urine would come out. It has gotten better, but slowly (I'm two weeks post now). I had the same issue as you with the ablation and the tilted uterus.

I had both ovaries out and am on HRT, so I can't help there either!

Good luck on your recovery!

Re: Hysterectomy June 24--concerned about urine output

I had my total LAVH same day as you. Due to the endometriosis that had to be cleand up, my bladder is still recovering from the scope. I couldnt pee and had to wear a catheter home and will get it taken out on Friday. Don't let your bladder get too full- the nurses weren't as attentive as they should have been and when they finally cathed me I had 1300 ccs and I filled the bag and then some and was in a lot of pain.
