Two weeks post hysterectomy (TLH): Post Op Stomach exercises when to start?

I had my total laparoscopic hysterectomy on the 8th Jan and ended up with a terrible infection which lead to me having a second op on the 16th, Im healing well now after the huge set back and just wondering how long must I wait till I can do some abdominal exercises to strengthen my tummy muscles up again and I think it should also help reduce the selling?

Re: Post Op Stomach exercises when to start?

Actually doing excerise to soon, can increase the swelly belly. My swelly belly didn't settle down til about 11 months.out. However, yours might stop, sooner. I would seriously consider talking to,your doc about when you can start. I was told 3 months but I had a vertical incision. Even then it was painful on the muscles. I had to start really slow.

Re: Post Op Stomach exercises when to start?

I was told at my 2 week check "no abdominal straining" I go for my 6 week check on Tuesday. I really, really hope he clears me. I fear it will not be for a little longer.

Re: Two weeks post hysterectomy (TLH): Post Op Stomach exercises when to start?

I was cleared at four weeks to run, swim and cycle - but no abdominal exercise until *six* weeks. Check with your doctor, but you're probably going to get similar advice. In the meantime, walk, walk, walk and keep walking.

Kim, your second surgery was only eight days ago. Patience. You need to give yourself time to recover.
