Newbie- Surgery Scheduled

Hi there to all...
I'm Cherie, and I am 23. I posted a Newbie thread in the intro bit to kind of give everyone a background so I won't go into too much detail (again).

My doctor and I have finally come to the decision for a total hysterectomy (10/27/2010). Uterine and ovarian cancer are present on both sides of my family. When I was diagnosed with precancerous cells over a year ago, my dr started really discussing treatment options and where to go from there. In March after several biopsies and 2 separate surgeries, it was found that I had Adenocarcinoma cells... Fun Fun! As a vet tech, I love that I know medical terminology enough to know that pretty much any carcinoma is a not so good thing. After chemo and a couple of trial and error treatments, my dr is concerned that things are not progressing as hoped for. Hysterectomy has always been their #1 option for me, but because of my burning desire for children, I have honestly been very stubborn and opposed to the idea. I felt as though that would be "Giving Up". If there were options to try, I wanted to take them and run!

At this point in my life, I have amazing friends who have become family to me. They are there for me when my own family has chosen not to be. I have 2 adorable nephews and a 3rd on the way (Due 2 days after my scheduled Hysterectomy... Boo!). My best friend is due in February with her first and I plan on being there for all of it!! She wants me to be her coach, cut the cord, etc... I am so excited for the path that my life is taking. Although saddened that my life's path is not taking me necessarily where I wanted it to go with my own hope for a family one day. BUT... I had decided recently that if things were not going as planned, or things started to get worse that I would most definately rather give up on my ONE dream of having my own child, than to give up on all my other hopes and dreams through out my life. I want to be there for those that I love forever. Allowing my cancer to get worse will not extend that time! I know in my heart that there is a child or children who may or may not be born yet that is looking for the right person to be their mom. I just hope that they find me!

I will have loads of questions and will do my best to keep up with everyone else's posts and threads... I need support from people who have some idea what I am going through now and what I will be going through in the near future.

Re: Newbie- Surgery Scheduled

I am about to ask the dumbest question on here and I certainly don't mean to offend anyone.

Before they take your ovaries, can they harvest some eggs, get a contribution from a male partner, have those eggs fertilized and then find a surrogate to carry your baby?

My sister had to have a hysto when she was in her early early twenties. She had already had a baby, but she wanted one with her new "husband" (i say it like that because they've been together almost as long as me and my husband have been together). I would have carried it for her if that was really what she wanted. She made peace with her decision not to, but I absolutely would have done that for her.

I don't know, but before they take your ovaries, some other plan could be made to help you have a child--your child, just carried elsewhere.

I truly hope I haven't offended anyone, and I'm not even sure it's something to suggest here.

Apologies,
Becky

Hi Cherie! I am a 22 year old, and i am very touched by your story. I can't imagine having cancer! I am having a TVH this month, for chronic pain and cysts. I would love to talk sometime. I do have children already, so if it offends you for me to talk about them please let me know! Hope to hear from you soon!!

Re: Newbie- Surgery Scheduled

Sheriff... my dr has mentioned surogacy, but I believe in order to store eggs they have to be fertilized... I'm not sure. We are looking into some options.

Autumn... I LOVE children and I am working towards becoming a teacher. I work with kids regularly. I am glad that I can involve other people's children in my life. I am not offended talking about other's kids. Early on I was hurt and upset that this dream of my own was being taken from me, but I understand now that there are LOTS of options for me. They are an absolute blessing. Yes... Talk away about them!
